Downtime :(
Sorry guys - the company that provide the connectivity for this server had some problems over the bank holidays so the site was down for a bit. No
problems with my equipment you'll be glad to hear and should all be sorted their end now.
Sorry about that, and thanks to all the ppl that emailled me saying the site was down.

I thought my home setup was duff! I normally access this site through my work machine (high-speed direct link), but I've been using dial-up through
the holidays.
No wonder it took ages to bring up a screen!
(good today)
cheers,
David

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the
error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Up and down like a whores drawers ;( I've even been reading the O/T stuff on TOL...
BTW Chris, what happened to
"The server is on a Sun server with RAID hardware and a UNIX operating
system (site uses Apache, PHP4 and MySQL). The entire switching
system and infrastructure is by Cisco and connectivity is provided by
THREE fibre lines on three DIFFERENT carriers to provide amazing
redundancy. The building is also backed up by diesel so power cuts
are not a problem either. Its because of all this that I have never
had a second of downtime reported in the entire time I've been
running.
The database server mirrors any data between two physical machines
and in the event that one is overloaded/busy/crashed the other takes
over in REAL TIME until the problem can be sorted or the load reduces.
What does all this mean? The site will be up, no question!"

That's all still true - but when the ISP goes down *all* my servers go down and (the really annoying thing) is that there's bugger all I can do
about it!

Let you off then!
Seriously though, sorry the site's been down. I've hassled my ISP about it but it's happened now so it's not like they can do anything about
it.
