Both the Americans and Israelis have had Hellfire missile armed Predators for some time.

Read an interesting Times magazine article few months back about the US' inability to find Bin Laden which included an interview with an ex-CIA operative. It said they'd actually had Bin Laden on the camera of a Predator in the Tora Bora area of Afghanistan. Sadly it wasn't armed with any Hellfires..... due to a row between the military and the CIA over who would fund the $5million cost of the missile!!!

Bureacratic inefficiency always wins in the end!

Cheers,
James

The day they get rid of the guy manning the control desk is when I'll worry - but I've probably watched to many Terminator films

I wonder if they could be used to take out speed cameras.

The Reaper's first combat deployment is expected in Afghanistan, and senior Air Force officers estimate it will land in Iraq sometime between this fall and next spring. They look forward to it.

i dont get it... so they unveil a new pilotless fighter plane, armed with a tonne and a half of bombs, suitably called "the Reaper" manned by the local army computer nerd, and to test it out they decide "bah we'll just test it on Afghanistan and Iraq theyre fighting each other anyways, so whats a bit more bombing and chaos to them?"...

what really worries me is that they're looking forward to it!!!!!

I watched a program last night about GPS guided artillery shells.

The electronics in the shell needed to (and did) withstand 16,000G's !

They fired a test shell (purposefully) 4 miles off target, it corrected itself and guided itself in and exploded within 3 metres of the target.

They're taking this "smart bomb" technology all the way.....
