Ah bless.....

From "Car Mechanics" July 2007

"......
The rules are that you don't laugh at a customer when confronted by a strange explanation for a problem.
Luckily for me, this happened with the customer at the other end of the phone.....
She had a Daewoo Leganza with the engine management light glowing. The car was generally running without problems but, of course, the light needed attending to.
We duly read the codes off the ECU and discovered the problem was due to a faulty MAP sensor. Fairly simple to replace sitting in the top of the inlet manifold, we price up the job and phoned her for permission to carry on with the repair. Alice, upon hearing that the problem was the MAP sensor, replied "but the car hasn't got satellite navigation"........"

Bless.

Nearly as bad as the lady who used to come in once a month on her way to do her monthly shopping. Complaining that the engine wasn't running right because she had to use the choke to start the engine.

While we smile at Alice for not knowing what a map sensor is, think about this one....

I went to my local Audi dealership to book my car in for it's 40k service.
The service manager, a lady, greeted me and asked the reg no of my car, which she put in the computer.

"Ah, 2L DIESEL A3 Sir?"

"Yup, and what I would like to know is, what exactly will be done to the car?"

"All fluids changed, all filters, SPARK PLUGS... yes, everything Sir".

I was filling up with petrol as a garage and noticed the car opposite had a large pool of oil underneath the engine.

I went over to mention it to the owner as she came out of the garage clutching a large container of oil.

I pointed out to her the pool under the car whilst she was opening the bonnet as I thought she wanted to take a look.

To my amazement she then told me that this was the second container of oil she'd bought her and how she thought the car design was daft.

She then expalined she was tring to top up the engine oil and showed me what she was doing. she was trying to pour the oil into the dip stick hole and the pool was the result of the previous attempt of which she said only a trickle had gone in!!

I saw much aggitation the other day at the petrol station. Not sure quite what had happened (I didn't want to get too close for rather obvious reasons) but someone's tank had let go when filled up to the max. It was a rather rusty old banger and I suspect the exposed fuel tank had just corroded through.... Whatever the cause, the end result was most of the fuel load all over the station forecourt. They pushed the car over to the "air+vac" bit and jacked up the back whereupon even more came out.... The smell was amazing!! Presumable about 30 litres of petrol all evaporating at once!!
Strangely the owner of an Aston Martin Vanquish didn't think driving over spilt petrol with two mahusive growling (and rather hot) exhausts was a dangerous thing to do..... (at that point I legged it)....
