Insurance

Why is it that i can get an insurance quote for me (20) and my parents (both 46) on my 3.2 Jag XJ6, and pay just over £1000.
and when i get a quote for the 4.0 XK8 im looking at the cheapest i can get is £2500 with a sky high excess (which im not too bothered about.
Anyone know where i might get a cheaper quote?
Tried Confused, RAC, Norwich union and auto trader website.

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Insurance

A 4.0 ltr XJ8 sound pretty expensive to insure anyway. Have you tried a specialist like Adrian Flux 0800 505 3000 or Graham Sykes 0845 1300 147 they maybe a better bet. How about he Jag owners club they may have special insurance deals for members. XJ8, Nice car.
Good luck

Try Lancaster under a classic policy - might be worthwhile, though you might need to be 21

HIC were cheaper than flux for my tintop having moved from tesco's and admiral the year before, declared tdi remap each year. Much nicer to deal with more specialist insurers as they actually know a bit more about cars and what they're talking about than reading from a script and pressing buttons on a computer database like most mainstream insurers call centres..

imho of course.

Best thing to do is not use internet quotes but talk to them, explain that you have been quoted less elsewhere and keep on ringing around.

Its either that or wait, I,m 43 and got quoted £700 for an XKR last month, pity I cannot afford one......

Still insurance is a bitch, you could try and get a traders policy, you do not get any no claims with these but these can be quite cheap, aka under £1000 my mates brother has had one since 19 years of age, you just need to convince then that you intend to deal a bit.

He needed it as he purhased an Uno turbo and no-one would touch him, with a traders insurance anything goes....

Regards Mark

Oooops.

As your 20, I'd suggest a normal car till you're 25. XK8 will cost a fortune to run.

Insurance £2500
Servicing £500
RFL £205 (ish)
Tyres £500 (assuming a grand a set every 2 years)
Fuel £2200 (based on 10000pa @ 20mpg and £4.3 gallon

That's nearly £6000 a year to run it!Let alone purchase costs and depreciation.

I don't know your financial state, but I'd think twice if I were you

Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm.

my mate does that, it includes public liability and premises insurance for just £1300. Should do it myself TBH, but that would waste 5 years NCB. I pay 500 for the van, 800 for the pug, 400 for public/employers.

Forgot, he's also got demonstration too, so he can let friends drive whenever he cant be arsed!

Most of us locostbuilders are all building or have built our own cars. Not many people call these 'normal' cars
