Worcester Bosch Boiler...
Hey guys - I have a problem which I think one or two of you may be able to assist with.
I purchased a Wocester Bosch 28i Junior Boiler in Novermber 2004. It has broken down and my call to WB resulted in them fobbing me off.
Now before I go wading in preaching about the 5 year guarantee thing I need to get my facts straight. The Boiler has a fault which I traced back to a
faulty relay on the PCB, hence I need a new board. As the Boiler is merely 3 years old I consider this to be unsatisfactory for a premium boiler, it
seems to be the most popular reason for this boiler to fail. Even thought a replacement board is approx. £100 new I've managed to source a
repaired exchange one (new relay) for £55. Relay itself is £15!
Can anyone point me in the right direction to a website or similar that states this 5 year underwritten guarantee so I can wade in to W.B. with some
degree of confidence.
Any help appreciated. - Steve

It says only 2 years in the current online literature mate - page 16 of the "User Instructions and Customer Care Guide" here......

Do you have a guarantee (which was registered) that states longer?? Wouldnt surprise me to see a company shorten the guarantee period rather than fix
a know fault

Don't think WB do a 5 year guarantee, I think it's just Baxi that do these. And you have to have had it services anually (read: vacuumed
by a Corgi guy for the price of a brand new vacuum cleaner) otherwise they won't honour it.

Under the sales of gods act you can request a repair or replacement up to six years after purchase. They can offer you either. Its a huge grey area
and isn't quite this simple, they can offer you a cost towards the repair too. For £55 I'd just fix it. It'll cost you more to go
to court and in the mean time you'll just shiver
HTH.

The factory is just down the road from our house, my brother in law was a welder there but he has retired now. They used to have a spares department
you could walk in and buy stuff very reasonably but they've closed it now.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Just fitted the same boiler , and the warranty for mine is 2years I have not seen 5 years mentioned anywhere.
Have talked to WB a few times and they seem efficient and helpful.

That how I got the boiler in the first place... I have a mate works there. Now the parts department has closed I cant get the spares.
I have bought a new PCB but the problem lies not here - still no heat or hot water, and it's getting colder over the next few days.

Steve, try wwwdiynot.com - ultimate home maintenance site used by trade and diy'ers. Usually, as here, you'll have a rapid response.
Cheers, Pewe.
PS Just a thought is there a re-set button you haven't found once the boiler's been disconnected.
PPS westF27 on here may be able to help - worth a U2U

Hi Pewe, - tried the reset button a few times, same problem
Tested all the sensors - ok
Seems like I have a dodgy replacement board.... been on to W.B. for 45 minutes chewing the cud (as it were) and they have ended up with the same
diagnosis as I have - faulty board... <mad> <mad> <mad>

To conclude this thread... replaced PCB again and all works fine. The new one has uprated relays to (hopefully) last more than the 3 years the
original ones did.
Just goes to show even the top (most respected) companies cut corners occasionally by using cheap components that are not really upto the job.

Just for interest - I had a Vaillant combi installed yesterday and the guarantee is for one year only.
Worked fine for two hours and then no hot water from taps. Checked everything and was about to call installers when I noticed traffic in street
outside at a standstill - burst water main
Fine now.
