Anyone know owt about mowers
Right me mowers buggered!
Its a Hayter Hawk Sprint 375 with auto drive rear roller and briggs and stratton easy start motor
Symptoms at last use
Wont operate at normal cutting revs, its very spluttery and lumpy. It still cuts but sounds rough as a badgers.
After last use i took air filter off and it was soaked in oil - is this supposed to be???
It ran no better without the filter on
Upon removing the air filter i cold access the throttle linkages when playing with these i coulg get it to rev up to and beyond normal operating revs
- it is lumpy then picks up.
The throttle linkages have VERY lightweight springs on them and there is no connection to a hand throttle for adjustment its some form of auto
rev/speed thingy.........
I cleaned the plug but it made no difference.
There is fuel and you can see it in the carb too when its running.
I got it out today after a week on holiday and it was the same so i set off cutting to try and get it done quickly and it died - it wont start now
either.
Any suggestion on what to take apart / clean / hit etc?
Cheers

Briggsbits.co.uk
My Briggs and Stratton used to run very lumpy / rich , black smoke and regular stalling checked everything , decoke etc.
Had to use easy start to get it going.
Found you could get different springs for the throttle and governor.
Spoke to the guy at Briggsbits , told me it was probably the diaphram on the bottom of the carb.
He was right it had been sucked in , bought a replacement kit for about £5 and it runs like a new mower.
I was going to take it to the tip as I thought it was knackered.

Thats also the exact the symptoms of not enough fuel in the tank

Is the fuel fresh? Old or water-contaminated fuel would do similar things?

Just spoken to my dad (Lawn Mover repairman extrordinair) and he says it will be the diaphragm gone!
New one is about £3.45 for diaphragm and gasket (if you want U2U me as he has them in stock so I can probably get one posted over to you)

I'll second replacing the diaphragm.
My mower had the same symptoms, changed the diaphragm and now it runs as sweet as a nut.
