OT Laying artificial coal in a gas fire

Are there any fire experts on here?

I have one of those gas fires with the fake coal that makes it look like a real coal fire (apparently)

I have bought a bag of new artificial coal chunks...

Is there a correct way of placing the coal in the fire so it works most effectivly and safley?

Hi, it is essential that you place the coals in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Gas fires can spill the products of combustion back into the room if the coals are are not positioned correctly. Most manufacturers instructions are available on the internet.
Don't risk CO poisoning.

Neither has any CORGI registered service engineers i've ever known either (including myself!)

If you've got the original instructions, or can find them on the internet there's usually a guide of where to place them in there.

Basically you want a nice even flame all over, if anything the longer larger flames at the rear so there not "spilling" out. Just keep manouvering the coals slightly over the larger flames and they even out eventually.. but be carefull they'll be bloody hot!
