ebay scam before I pay?

Just won this stupidly cheap:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120169908032&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26 _trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D120169908032%26fvi%3D1

No paypal.

Scam?

Have emailed him to ask for a collection address and postal address if I don't get round to collecting.

Pat...

mmmmmm

reminds me of the Duck theory....

If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and sounds like a duck.....

It probably IS a duck.....

If it looks too good to be true......well you know the rest.

If you do get it it's probably broken or stolen

Cheers

Mark

I hope I'm not doing the seller a disservice but quack quack as above.

That said I have a set of wheels on at moment, 1 bid at 99p, if that's what they fetch ? Well my loss.

had it have got 30 bids, up to £200 or so, all would look fine... perhaps just down to bad advetising which he can't help.

still, it IS a risk. if it is a scam, at least you're not paying hundreds for it, which is of some (still little) condolence

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

I assume you have asked if its ok to collect in person and for an address to collect it from?? If you have a full name and address then you could always check the telephone directory for starters. Just an idea.

0 feedback! make like you are going to pick it up in a couple of days, see if he squirms, if not call again and say you can't make it but need to get the thing urgently so can you pay by paypal, even if he asks for a couple of quid extra you do get protection. If the deal goes belly up get in fast with negative feedback before he does it to you and report him as a fraud to ebay!

As similar items are going for around £150 I'd be wary... as he is a new seller, why is he a new seller?

Can you afford to loose £30+ or whatever it finally goes for?

Personally it's a decision I'd rather not take... if in doubt, don't do 'owt!

He states at the bottom:-

"Collection can be made from our office in Gorseinon, Swansea by prior appointment. We will provide a reciept on collection."

Get someone off here, who's local, to collect it for you & pay them to post it to you - much safer - you're only at risk to some theiving scumbag on this forum then!

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Last time I looked Paypal offered very limited buyer protection unless the seller has over 50 Ebay rating and meets a few other requirements.

Paypal / Ebay love to give the impression that everyone's protected if used, but the reality is rather different and its a complete nightmare to actually make a claim so Id certainly not rely on its "protection" as a catchnet for paying a potential scammer some money.

Registered as a business seller, with only one item for sale?
That's a very small business!

Pat

I'm more than happy to pick it up for you! Swansea isn't far away and I'm there every few days. I've just realised that he's in Gorseinon which is even closer!

OK - it looks dodgy - no feedback, new user but it doesn't read like a first timer's auction!

he does say you can collect, and make payment in person. therefore he would be willing to give his address if you say you want to collect in person, once he does, check out the address somehow, and if it all chaecks, its all good

to play devils advocate, he might included the bit about collection to instill confidence, since the majority of bidders are out of collection range anyway.
