Avensis
I've stupidly taken on a repair for some freinds on their 01 1.8 VVTI Avensis. To cut a long story short I'm in need of a gearbox.
I've had several false leads so far as there's more than one type. If anyone on here knows of any one who can help that would be great. A
box with noisey bearings might do as I'm planning to recondition anyhow. The current box is f#####d beyond all recognition.
It's been three weeks now so I really need to get this sorted soon. Any suggestions welcome.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

With the various types available I'm cautious of buying from the net.

I've got a bloke lined up to recon the box when found. Don't want to risk s/h as chap wants to keep the car.

Replace the gearbox with a couple of turnips - top idea but don't you think the owner will notice?

My Avensis (now sold on) lost 5th on the way to Donnington last year. ). Had trouble finding another good box so had it recon'ed (used gears
from another box that had lost 1st) and it went again in 5 miles. Cost a packet for new gears but its still OK now.
