Laid up insurance

Im taking the tintop off the road for a month or two and i want to reduce my cover as much as poss to save a bit of money. I phoned current insurers RAC today and the lady said i could only get laid up cover if the car was locked in a garage which is not possible due to the size of my tintop and the locost is in there.
I phoned footman james as they give discount for jaguar enthusiast members but they wouldnt come near me as they class my car as a classic so i would have to be over 25
I tried adrian flux and they said same as RAC. I asked for a quote anyway as i have heard good things about them on here and he said they would be more expencive than the £1000 per year i am paying at the moment
Does anyone have any ideas at to what i can do? I want to keep her insured as there is a school nearby but i dont want to be paying 80 something quid a month if im not using her

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Could you find somewhere secure to store it? Might be cheaper to leave it uninsured and rent a lock up somewhere for a few months.

I want to work on her while she is off the road so it would be soooooooooooooo much easier if in was left on the drive

You will struggle I think. If you are looking at other insurers then I guess you are considering canceling the policy with RAC to do so?

Bear in mind that doing this is a pain, they screw you over on "admin" charges PLUS you will loose your half accumulated no claims bonus, and as a young driver I reckon thats something you will want
