A commical sh*t your pants moment...
Driving to work this morning, enjoying the empty bit of road I managed to find, I was flying along (At the speed limit)...
Came to a straight bit of road with a que of traffic at the other end so started to slow down, then started to slow down a lot more....the driver of
the porsche 944 behind me must have been half asleep because he decided not to break until the last moment inducing a nice slide, luckily he pulled
into the other side of the road and slid past the back of my car...
Sooo close... its one of those moments where you hear tyre and tarmac part company and just wait for the smack...
Silly muppet for not paying attention...and pitty you for not having ABS or the skill to not need it!
Would have really wound me up if I had ended the week with a porsche driver up my arse!

That sound coming from behind (no joke intended) is really horrible isn't it - you have absolutely no control over what happens next...

I had that a couple of days ago, only he didn't manage to stop.
No real damage, but still heart stopping.

I had that, but it resulted in a bang.
On a lane, other side decided to do a three point turn with traffic approaching a 60 mph.
Problem was that i had stopped in a gentleish manor, but the car in front paniced, ending up side down in a ditch.
I was well forward in my seat, so when i got hit from behind, it did my back in.
Love how the person that hit me said "what did you stop for", not "sorry i`m a crap driver."

i know that feeling very well.
sat waiting at the lights on wakefield road in bradford, heard a screech of tyres and looked in the mirror to see a 40 foot artic with all wheels
locked up, smoke everywhere sliding towards the back of my car. I looked back at the lights and they were just changing to green so i got into gear
and floored it.
no collision luckily but i doubt he would have stopped in time if i hadnt moved

happened to me also while waiting to turn right, guy pulling a caravan piled into the back off me, blasted my car into the other lane only for an
oncoming granada to drive through the side of my poor car.

coming down the M6 and a quick queue formed at the exit for J15, i was in the fast lane and saw what had prompted the sudden stop - a dog running up
the central reservation.
I came to a stop and the the car behind me skidded past me - yes i was in the ouside lane! he went between me and the barrier
He hit nothing but his face was a picture i tell you!

I had a similar "where's that screeching noise coming from" moment, when an old dear in a nissan micra decided not to brake for the
roundabout I was patiently waiting to join. instead of diving down the empty bus lane, or the empty fast lane, she locked up and smashed into the back
of my fto. sent me flying forwards into the car queueing infront of me, writing them both off and putting me in hospital.
off work for 18months, still waiting for compensation 3 years later, and she got done for driving without due care etc and speeding, which is
impressive for a 60 year old woman in a micra! her defense was that she was looking in her mirrors as she thought someone was overtaking her - IT WAS
A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY for christ's sake!
anyway, rant over, I bought a Nissan Skyline with the payout on the fto.

Why is it that when you would quite like someone else's insurance to pay for the new car that you want, it dosen't happen to you?

I had similar a while ago. Sat waiting to turn right into my work yard in a hire van i wasnt sposed to be in. The roads were a bit wet, i heard a
nice skidding noise looked in the mirror to see a little saxo skidding towards me. I gunned it forward as i didnt think shed stop. She came to rest
up the kerb and a car length from where i was. I turned into my yard and she carried on her merry way. It must have damaged the wheels because they
are high kerbs.

When going through the Mk 2 Escort stage in the 80's,Myself and a friend were looking for a place that we were to pick up a 'cage for a
Mk1.As per, drove past it.So sat waiting to turn right into a carpark to turn round. There is a huge amount of noise from behind.I look into the door
mirror and see another Mk2 with its Bib' on the floor and smoke bellowing off the front tyres.Because i'm sat with the wheels
right, waiting to make the turn. The impact shoots us into the car park via the curb after a 180 rotation. The petrol tank was crushed up against the osr
wheel arch and leaked heavy style. My mate has back problems now which he still says is due to that crash.Oh Hum.Life before ambulance chasing lawyers.
..Which was nice..
