I'll assume you don't mean the one next to North Shields!

You'd have to get Nicks tickets at the very least if you can!

Fly Virgin best on the Atlantic run, Stay in Manhatten millions of hotels, try last minute dot com close to the time to get good deals they do "secret" hotels tha are usually expensive ones at a very cheap rate, the more expensive the better!

Oh don't carry a gun or be in posession of fireworks don't run away from cops they do shoot first and ask questions later. . . if they are going to ge an answer

Went at Christmas. American Airlines from Stansted was £230 return per person to JFK (although not a great departure airport for you I suppose). Stayed at the Park Central Hotel which is very nice, about £100 per room per night, short walk to Times Square but far enough removed for local restaurants and diners to be sensibly priced. Top-of-the-rock at the top of the Rockerfeller Centre is good view and much less of a queue than empire state building (and the view includes the empire state!) but maybe not so much of a New York 'tick'. Staten Island ferry is free and gives good views of Manhattan, Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty. Natural History museum on the west side of Central Park is excellent. Recommend the Rough Guide to NY, ISBN 1-84353-692-7.

I went with some mates a couple of years ago for about £650 flights & (fairly crappy) hotel.

We had a great time, and saw almost all the main sights.

Depending on the size of your group i'd recommend checking out http://www.bigapplegreeter.org/

It's a voluntary organisation where New Yorkers agree to show tourists around. It's all free and you get an afternoon's worth of guided tour with lots of 'insider info'. They'll tell you honestly where is really worth going and, as we found to be more important, what are the best times to go and see the various things without queues/touts/traffic etc.

Not sure if i should admit it but the thing that i most enjoyed in the whole trip? Going to watch the Lion King on Broadway. I wouldn't be able to describe it in words, but i'l just say that if you can put any preconceptions about musical theatre-y stuff to one side and go along, you'll be impressed. Honest!
