Where could i get the parts for a full scale remote control car?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Your local radio controled model shop....
A couple of large servos, a windscreen wiper motor and some cunning would have you remotly controled in no time

There was a scrapheap challenge on this they used half an electric wheelchair for the steering, an automatic car and I think an electric aerial for
the shifter, and a simple rc servo on the throttle.

Except for the reciever and transmitter and maybe a few odds and sods there is nothing in a model shop that will be of any good to ya. Model servos
will not have anything like enough power in them for the steering, although thinking about it they may be alright for the throttle.
If its broke, fix it. If it aint broke, take it apart and find out how it works!

Also be aware that 35mhz radio is for aircraft only. 27mhz is used for land based craft. I guess you could also use the 2.4ghz gear although Im not
entierly sure on this point.

Get yourself over to RCgroups.com - plenty of people who have built stupidly large projects on there.
The Tx and Rx won't be a problem, any model shop - I'd strongly suggest you ask on RCgroups about redundancy / twin systems used on 1/3rd
scale aircraft - just for that added security that you aren't going to lose control! Plenty of servo's that can operate the throttle, you
will need beefy motors for the brakes and steering but you can still easily get control boards for the motors you decide to use.
