Pug 106 - sunroof leaking

Ive got a Pug 106. 1.1, 1996 (P reg) facelift model.

Its got a tilting glass sunroof. Ive started to noice now its quite wet that the back seats have been getting a soaking. The headliner seems to get wet behind the sunroof internal handle and then drip down. Makes them smelly and mouldy.

Ive washed the car out at the weekend. Seas cleaned and slowly drying in the house. Had hose on the roof but coulnt see water running in. The black trim on the outside doesnt appear to sit flush on the roof (small gap underneath).

Anyone has this problem before and know a quick fix?

I thought about -
1. Putting some vaseline on outside seals to see if they were at fault?
2. Checking the drain tube was clear - except ive no idea where it is!

sorry it sounds a write-off

you might be able to save it though by using mastic to fill up the gap. As it only tilts it will probably not have rubber drain pipes behind the headlining so that's not the cause. Cutting a hole in these weak shells is a terrable idea as they flex far to much for most seals.

Yvonne's Pug has a tilt and slide sunroof. It leaks too!

Park it indoors?

Must be a French thing.

Ill probs fill gap with mastic. Good idea. Just dont want it to look crap. Maybe if im careful with some masking tape etc i might get away with it. The temp vaseline idea was to prove if this was the source or not but then it would be a bugger to clean off.

If its an aftermarket sunroof does this mean it should be easily removable to reseal?

I dont think it is aftermarket though cos the headliner is moulded and looks factory finished.

My 106 has a leaky sunroof too. when i go round a corner it either drips into my lap, or the passengers lap depending on which way im turning

it also collects in the interior light. next dry weekend we get im going to unbolt it, and have a good look to see if i can find anything

There will be a trim strip running round the edge of the headlining. Take that off and you will see the inner clamp ring. Usually bolts run round this to clamp the top and bottom ring together with a mastic seal between the top ring and the roof panel. All that's happened is the mastic has dried out. Like you say some masking tape will stop a mess and if you make sure the mastic is hot (leave on a radiator) it should be able to be forced into the gap.sure the mastic is hot (leave on a radiator) it should be able to be forced into the gap.

Maybe i should have read the owners manual more carefully. It would appear that the internal hydration system is a particular feature of this model

Thanks for replies. At least i know its not just this one so hopefully an easy fix. Its just bugging me that there so much moisture on the inside of the windows. Pug should have supplied internal wipers.

The sunroof panel is not designed to be waterproof, it sits in a well which has 4 drain tubes which vent down the A & C pillars to the rear of the front wings and at the base of the rear quarter behind the bumper.

When these tubes get blocked, the water wells up over the lip and soaks the headlining.

Don't blow the tubes out with an airline as this will just blow them off the sunroof frame and a lengthy strip and fit to reafix. Try to clear them from the other end with a length of wire or net curtain support.

If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Beat me to it - but yes, had the same problem with a 306. On mine one of the front corner drain holes was blocked - I cleaned it out with a tie wrap which I poked down the hole. Kept it clear thereafter and checked it frequently by pouring water down the drain hole.
