Don't forget your beer coat, keeps you surprisingly warm until about 5am...

lightweights !

Me and a few mates camped overnight on the sumit of ben nevis on hogmany
although it was only -4° and I had just bought a new downed sleeping bag in the sales

but seriously, get a half decent 3/4 seson sleeping bag (that isn't too old - they loose insulation with time)
and one of those foam mat things or an airbed or thermarest as a minimum (preferebly both, i.e. foam and air under you)

if you need it a hotwater bottle helps

after that all you've got to do is try and keep dry

I'll second Coozers suggestion of a Beer Coat, or a Bacardigan for the ladies.

Ive got a 6 man Vango Diablo. bought it last year. Big enough to have a party inside (its got a central living section, 2 bedrooms an a big Porch.

Only used it once, Fancy something a bit smaller for this year. Its annoying when 2 kids and wife just stand there watching you struggle on putting it up.

Chris's idea sounds the best to me for the odd weekend.

Doesnt matter what you get, if its cold outside it will be cold inside. Good sleeping bag is crucial.

I was tasty warm at Newark last year. Rather inebriaed and inside the wagon with 5 others!!

As above, the only tent i will ever buy again will be a khyam.

Quality and reliability are second to none for leisure tents.

My current 2 man dome tent is 15 years old and still totally waterproof and i can put it up on my own in less than 4 minutes.
Even in the wind its easy to put up.
