Post Office/DVLA/Tax......

These clowns really make my wee boil.....

My Laguna was on Ebay and the auction ended on Sunday. As the car was due to be sold, I declared it SORN as from the first of this month. The car didn't meet its reserve, so I thought I'd tax it for 6 months and use it. It's a nice car and I was hoping it wouldn't sell but I do have a lot of cars........
Anyhoo, Miss Owelly has just been to the Post Office to tax the car and because it's SORN, they can't issue a tax disc!!
She 'phoned me and I spoke to the PO woman and told her that we were unSORNing the car by getting a Tax disc. She says we have to apply to DVLA in Swansea or wait until next month!!
WTF is all that about!!!
I'll try to do it on the DVLA webby when Miss Owelly returns but has anyone else had a similar experience?

Maybe the car isnt fully sorn'd yet as you have made the application recently. Once its fully sornd you should be able to get tax no problem - i thought thats why they had bar codes on them now so the PO can get the status quickly and un sorn them.

I declared the vehicle SORN on the 28th of Feb. The DVLA details show the car as SORN.
I have just attempted to tax the vehicle online but according to the database, the car has no insurance. As I transferred the insurance from my other car this morning, it hasn't been updated yet. That leaves me with a car that has tax, but no insurance (because I transferred it) a car with insurance but no tax (because of the aforementioned problems) and the choice of going to work on my motorbike or my plastic car with no roof or heater.
What ever happened to popping to the local PO with a bundle of missmatched documents and a cunning mind to get a tax disc????

I re-sorned my motorbike on 28th Feb but managed to get an MOT in so went to the Post Office 1st March and they taxed it fine. She did have a bit of a head scratch but scanned the V5 instead of the SORN notice and I'm back on the road.

Our receptionist managed to SORN rather than tax one of our company cars, online.

She spoke to the DVLA and they explained the only way for her to get a disc was to visit the PO, so she did that afternoon and got a new disc.

The car it happened to wasn't one of our insurance declared registrations, just under the "owned or loaned to the company" policy so wouldn't be on the insurance register, yet we manged fine to tax it.

If you have the correct documents to show its insured and MOT'd, and fill out the tax disc application it can't be an issue as thats all thats required, irrespective of SORN.

If you haven't got insurance to cover the car, you can't tax it, thats your problem.

I have a current MoT, the tax reminder slip, the V5 and a new insurance certificate.
I phoned my insurance company who confirmed it can take up to 12hrs for the insurance to register on the database, but my insurance should be OK (at the time I made the call) but as the PO had already accessed the system to tax my car, I have to wait 12 hours before I can try again. Goodo.
As I live in a poxy one horse town, the next nearest PO is a two day camel ride.

I've dug out my thermals and my crash hat. I hope it doesn't snow tomorrow!
