tappets and spanners

i'm helping a mate set the tappets on his Honda cbx 550, it looks like its going to be a 3mm spanner but before i go and buy one is it Imperial?

no its honda cbx 550 f2 bike about 20 years old. the locknut around the tappit is 8m

Honda probably sell a tool specially for this. I know Suzuki do, sounds like exactly the same size as a GSXR tappet adjuster. It's much easier with the propper tool rather than a 3mm spanner.

Get the proper Honda tool , saves temper and also less chance of damaging the adjustor square. Probably still available for not a lot of cash
