Are PS3 worth the money?
Hi all,
Just wondered if a PS3 is worth the money and which version is better?
I used to have a PS2 and loved it.
Sorry it's not car related, well it is sort of, I'm looking forward to GT5...
Many thanks
P.S. anyone got one for sale

Yes. Only downside at the moment is the lack of games but there are alot coming out.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Having owned both my opinion is the XBOX 360 has a better selection of games and much better online gaming. I prefer the 360 controller too as my
fingers are always sliding off the PS3 triggers.
I do like the PS3 interface and the console feels much less restricted. Such as being able to install Linux and the instructions tell you how to
upgrade the hard disk if required unlike Microsoft.

YES YES YES!!
I have one and the graphics are awesome! I'm not a big gamer but i know a good thing when I see it. I have mine rigged to my 1080i HD TV and am
constantly amazed at the graphics.
Before I bought it I did look at the 360 but seeing as I wanted to use the machine as a HD DVD player i plumbed for the PS3 because it had Blue Ray
built in and the 360 requires a seperate drive to be purchased.
Ok there are many more games for the 360 but there will be as many for the PS3 before long. The Blue Ray v's HD DVD seems to be going Blue
Ray's way so another plus for PS3!
I bought the 40Gig version which has a cooler quieter processor so it scores 10/10 for me!
Hope this helps.

i don't know if they still are, but when they came out the PS3 was the same price as a blu-ray player that only played blu-ray discs. plus you
got all the benefits as above^

I'm with Donut here, got a first gen 60gb PS3 and have been consistently blown away by it's capabilities. Gran Turismo playable demo is
awesome, although I spend most of my spare time on Guitar heroes 3!!
There are lots of downloadable games on the playstation store and some classics from PS1 days (wipeout, destruction derby, hardcore4x4 etc)- I'm
a big kid really!! Look out for Superstardust HD - stunning remake of Asteroids.
The Blu-Ray vs HD DVD is all but over since Toshiba announced they're not making anymore HD lasers!!
Oh, and the best accessory you can buy for the PS3 is - yes a PSP!!

Biggest downside for the current PS3 is they've removed the backwards compatibility for PS2 games.
Was top of my list until they removed that functionality. Went and bought a 360 last week
If you buy a 360, though, don't do what I did and buy an arcade as you need the hard drive for lots of things they don't tell you about.
Until I splash out on one, I can't play Burnout online, nor can I play original Xbox games.

Get a Wii!
They are just brilliant!
I've not laughed so much since we first played twister as a family.
Saying that, if it for an evening of macho l33tness then ps3 is a good option.
I'd try before you buy, as a Wii is just great fun!

I don't know it looks more of a novelty thing; does it come with a proper controller?

I had all three, Wii, PS3 and the 360.
I sold my PS3 as the lack of games was doing my head in and I bought another 360! This was mainly as my son hogs the one in the lounge It's
good though as myself, Ben my son, my brother who lives over coventry way and my nephews all get together at least once a week and have a good old
Halo 3 or COD 4 session whilst we all catch up with whats been going on in our lives at the same time via the headsets It's the social side
to Xbox Live that really takes some beating, between the 360 and the Wii I get all my gaming fixes to be honest.
The killer is that Mass Effect is only on the 360, which if you've played it you'll know is a totally awesome game and is worth buying a
360 for to play it!

PS3 for me all the way
http://www.ps3fanboy.com/ is worth reading with a pince of salt but still a good source of info.
One of the best things i find with the ps3 is that i can connect it to a media server so rather than watching things on the laptop i can watch it on
the TV, i do this with the BBC iPlayer stuff(after tweaking the DRM out of the files) for things ive missed which is great

Have a PS2 and a Wii - the Wii is quite simply awesome. The games are very funny and involving. My son had a birthday party t'other day and his
mates all brought around their Wii remotes which can store Mii's (individual little characters that you can create) 6 remotes and they all
connected all with their own Mii's. I was absolutely amazed at how easy it was... they had a right laugh playing Mario Olympics!!! The gameplay
is breathtakingingly simple, the graphics although not cutting edge were very well rendered and well up to the job.
Our next purchase now HD DVD is dead/being killed off will be a PS3 - but the backward compatibility for us is an issue as we have a few 10's of
games for the PS2.
So under the TV we now have - Wii, PS2, DVD Player, Sky+ Box - soon a PS3. Still...

They scrapped the 60GB version as the backwards compatibility with ps2 ballsed something up with the blu ray play back. So I heard from a friend at
Sony. I bet its cos they make more money on the 40GB by putting fewer features in it.

The 360 has a rather nifty trick up it's sleeve as it can be whats called a "media extender". If you have Windows Media Centre
running on a home server in your house you can basically control it from your 360. You can record and watch live TV, watch your DVD's, Listen to
your music, and access some web sites from it.
