Wife will kill me

I have bought a car, wife will have a fit but its just something I had to do.
I have always drooled over these and being an Italian car nut this was the only option for me. Seemed like a good deal (who cares, its only money)

Ok its old, but its going to be a lot of fun this summer on the B roads in North Scotland .
LHD, 8v cat version imported from Switzerland. 1989 Model.

oh dear, I'll look out for you.

Is that the actual car or just one that has some metal left? a kind of 'this is what it looked like before the rust took hold...'

Looks like a picture from a magazine, if that's the actual car then it's very nice, I am sure the wife will come round when she see it.
Good luck
Barry

Sorry that's not the actual car, but it is white, As said all are LHD but some were impoted and converted to right hand drive.
The 8 valve cat model was used in germany and Switzerland , It is basically a 16v car with the 8 valve engine to meet the emisions. But as its a pre 93 car you can get rid of the cat in this country.

Suits me as its more reliable an still produces around 185 BHP.

I have still to pick it up and give it a good going over but I hope all will be OK.
Its got a new MOT and thhe Guy spent about 5 grand on it in the last 3 years , but only did 3000 miles. So all the expensive bit have been replaced.
Turbo, rear diff , brakes, tyres.exhaust, cam belts etc

So fingers crossed i wont have to replace anything major

I'll no doubt let you know how it goes.

All left hookers, really scarey when they go wrong, especially the 16v ones.

Great cars never the less, real point and squirt beasties

If you're going to hit the divorce courts, that's the one to do it for. I see Walkers have a Hen's Tooth Delta that is a 3V.
It's £39950 so explain to Mrs how sensible you've been "only" spending what you spent.

Annual spend of £1700 is just normal maintenance costs. About £2 a mile plus petrol, tax, insurance.

Nice one. As said, worth dying for! The Delta has maintained a top ten place in my fantasy garage since I was a kid!

The link to Walkers Garage is great! I drove past there a few months ago, when the A1 was closed. Damn near crashed as I drove past, staring at a row of Delta's on the forecourt!

But, great news is that SWIMBO wants a Punto as her new motor, so I think a trip down might be in order!

The car is in prety good nick and having owned a few lancias in the past I have no illusions on the maitenance side.
But to be honest I think a lot of the scare storeys for cost are not warrented.
Any car will cost a fortune if you mis-behave and expect a specialist to fix it.
The 8v engine is pretty bullet proof and they are far more reliable than either the Escort Cosworth and cheaper to maintain than the Audi.

They are seen as a rarity here but there were over 45,000 produced in Europe. When you consider that there were only 7500 Escort Cosworth made. Parts are readily availiable on the continet and they made real improvements to the rust proofing in 1989, to the extent that by 1991 the cars are pratically stainless steel.

Unfortunatly they tend to get thrashed and misused and you dont really know what the previous owner did when they drove them.

If it come to the worst I'll just sit and look at it

Actual car

Thanks for all the replys, I will really need to spend some time going over the car from top to bottom, But this is going to be a rarely used car as I already have way too many, If it needs a lot of work I will just have to take my time.

My brother has a 8v Fiat croma turbo engine sitting round doing nothing and as it basically the same unit I may have acces to a few spares

I have had expierence of the Delta before and know most of the pitfalls and as I am also building a Beta Spyder (cant possibly be a bad as the Beta) I am aware of Lancias common weak points.

I Just have to sort out collection and Inssurance ( may be a shock)

Cheers

we used to have loads of those (intergale) in Greece. Mostly you could find them in garages for repairs... but now days there all gone... They becoming rare so if you have one keep it, soon will worth more than your devorse..
