Careless + Angry Grinder = pain & Boredom
Got stuck into the MG yesterday morning, 4 days should see the back inner and outer wings replaced I thought... An hour in and looking up to speak to
SWMBO, the grinder was half way through my glove and finger....
I was only in the Hospital an hour, quite impressed..
Now I'm faced with the rest of the break watching bank holiday crap on the TV, and wondering whether the nerves will mend - finger tip feeling
is half way down now...
Be carefull out there....

Point very much taken.
Today will be the last time I use 5" discs in a 4 1/2" angle grinder with no guard.
I knew it was stupid, but thankfully I got away with it.
Hope you heal quickly.
(Note to self, you have ten fingers and two eyes just now, try and keep it like that.)

did i mention i nearly had my eye out last week with a screwdriver? Worst thing is, you really wouldnt've seen it coming. One minute i was
turning a stiff screw, next it had jumped out and id stabbed myself HARD on the bottom of me eye socket. Guess you cant cover all bases.

My usual trick used to be:
1. Do some welding.
2. Tidy up the welds with the angry grinder, wearing the full protective kit.
3. When finished, look at the job and think "I'll just tidy that up" and do some final grinding without the protective gear.
Taken the skin off my fingers a couple of times doing that - never again - grinder burns don't heal very easily either.
What really peeved me was that I got grinder grit in my eye twice, requiring a hospital visit each time. I was wearing full eye protection both
times...

Another horror story, while hammer drilling a hole on a wall with a long 15" masonary drill. Bit snapped in half with the bit in the chuck going
through my hand and into the wall. Painful trying to rewind it out. But seasonal, I know how Jesus felt now. Hope the finger gets better soon.

I was stripping a wiring loom this time last year using a pair of scissors and of course they slipped straight into my thumb and hit the bone and
damaged the nerves i still have limited feeling, the stupid thing is i could see what was going to happen, so you are not alone, i ended up buying a
new loom anyway

I managed to get my finger stuck between the grinding disc and the gaurd. Luckily the disc was part worn, managed to get down to the bone. Complacency
is a dangerous thing.

Was grinding with right hand and metal in left hand and...whoops. Good job it was a worn down as the body of the grinder acted as a stop. Amazing
though, it seem to sort of corterize at the same time !

Stood on a plank about 6' long with a 6 inch nail sticking up. Straight through my trainer, foot and up out through the laces. = sore but no
permanent damage.
Bloody kids collecting wood for bonfire night!! !!
Just remembered another school boy error! Taking an engine and box out of a RWD Celica and underneath undoing the gearbox mount holding the box up
with one hand (superman!) The last bolt came out and the box dropped straight down trapping my index finger against the conctrete. Split the skin
and all the white stuff inside was pushed out. What a laugh!

One of the first things i tend to do these days is put on some safety glasses when i go in the garage.
Wear them till i leave. Had a couple of close calls with my eyes and don't like the idea of losing them.
Still aware that i should be wearing googles as things have bounced off my skin, under the glasses, off the glasses and into my eye. At least with 2
bounces they've lost enough force and heat to just be an irratent rather than a danger (so far!)
Folks be careful, i'm sure these cars are more fun to enjoy with all your bits and alive.

Funny how often you just know something is going to hurt before it happens isn't it?

Well Pete this thread is turning out to be a real hoot- now a photo quiz Yep everybody's favourite
"Spot the odd one out time!!!"
For those with visual impairment it is the middle one - got clipped with a fencing mallet, broke joint and tendon. The good news is that it was
"fixed by the local hand expert"
I wouldn't like to see one fixed by an enthusiastic amateur!!
Anyway get well soon!

Know what you mean about "expert" my right leg is 3/4" shorter than the left and the "tracking" is toe out a mile!

Cheers guys, hope you're all getting on with things safely. Bet hitting that finger with the mallet really hurt, and the nail through the foot
makes me cringe thinking about it, like finger nails down a blackboard pulling it out...
I thought I had all bases covered, gogs, full overalls, leather / kevlar gloves, just that moments lack whilst asking for a cup of bloody tea.
Still I know how to restore a water wheel and a narrow boat now thanks to disco channel, just to rub salt in I bet Mark Evans MGB resto is on at some
point....
