Some thing to cheer you lot up

Some others having banger rallys

The Adventurists Jibber
Hello peoples,

Hold on to your wide brimmed hats folk for here's some news that's going to have you demonstrating the two fingered salute to your boss and sprinting for the open road.

After launching the Africa rally with much aplomb we decided we should actually try it out ourselves. So we search among our number to find two highly unsuitable test pilots to beat a dusty path from London to Cameroon. The team comprises of Will, editor in chief of the Adventurists Magazine (the one that has not been launched yet) and Dickon, a thespian builder with no discernable skills to help him survive.

They have a combined weight of 37 stone, bugger all mechanical know-how and a £250 Nissan Micra fresh from the lower echelons of Autotrader.

We gave them a whole week to prepare, none of which they made good use of since they set off with no spare parts, tools or spare wheels. They did make great plans to take some scones but forgot to put them in the car.

Over the next two weeks our Musketeers will be taking on the ultimate jungley deserty adventure in their bid for Les Cameroons; a mere ten countries standing between them and final glory.

After a whole lot of people decided it was impossible we felt the need to prove them wrong, and to prove once and for all that 4 x 4s are for pussies and that six jerry cans filled with the finest Spanish wine and a glove compartment stuffed with scones are all you need for a journey to the heart of Africa. (minus the scones)

To follow the impending disaster you can check in here for the latest updates:

For your reading pleasure we have included the first blog post from the test pilots at the end of this email.

If the thought of such flagrant danger is making you green around the gills then fear not, for there are still places available on this year's Pioneering Africa Rally. If you fancy a bit of the jungly deserty adventure for yourself email us at africa@theadventurists.com.

Till next time,

The Adventurists

The picture to the right is me, relaxing at home. I'm a veteran of stupid adventures; I've fallen off the Great Wall of China, survived the tsunami in Sri Lanka, crashed a hand-made dune buggy in the Gobi desert, and survived Primark on a Saturday afternoon.

A few days ago, I was stroking my pet ocelot, drinking a peg of absinthe and quietly puffing on my opium pipe, when my old friend Lord Tom of the Adventurists called.

"Highgate 223", I replied, in my usual manner.

"Will", said Tom, for that is my name.

"We're looking for someone stupid and gullible to drive down to Africa."

Clearly, I was his chap. I informed my butler to polish the blunderbuss, nipped onto ebay, bought a classic motor car, and the deal was done.

Africa beckons. But first, I had to find a batman.

THE WARNING

These adventures are genuinely dangerous things to do. The website is written in a light-hearted fashion but you cannot underestimate the risks involved in undertaking this kind of adventure. Your chance of dying can be very high, some past teams have been seriously injured. These adventures are not a glorified holiday they are an adventure and so by their very nature extremely risky. You really are on your own. If it all goes wrong, that's it, tough. Anyone sensible would advise you to stay at home and arrange your pants in colour order.
