Restoring header tanks?

I know this question has been asked before, but ten mins of searching brings up nothing...

What is the best way to clean an old, limed up grubby header tank?

Would be nice if it could be returned to nice white colour again!

You being serious?

How much damage to the tank and dishwasher will it cause?

(And what is the best method of distracting SWMBO whilst I "test" the dishwasher?)

Send SWIMBO to Africa for 6 months on a Gap Year or doing charity work. Somehow they always know when domestic appliances have been utilised for the cause.

Failing that, put hot water in, along with soap powder and some gravel. Shake.

If you want to avoid p!ssing off SWMBO by using the dishwasher, try doing it another way . I used some metal cleaning balls - see here for more info and a pic

Cleaned mine by using dishwasher powder and very hot water , plug up the hoses and fit the cap, give it a good shake it will come up like new . Easier to use the dishwasher if you dare.
