Header tank position
Im trying to figure out where best to mount the header tank on my car...
Does the entire tank need to be above the level of the top of the engine?
The engine is going to stick out of the bodywork a bit as it is... Having to mount the header tank higher is going to look a wee bit odd and
seriously mess with my aerodynamics...

Coolant level in the header should be the highest point of the system - you don't need a head as in domestic plumbing.
Can you not mount it on the bulkhead (see my pics - mine helped by centre bulge in the bonnet)?
Alt. you can mount it lower but need to incorporate a bleed valve in the highest point in the system - not partic. satisfactory though.

Unfortunatly I dont have a bulkhead per-se...
The only place to put the header tank is so the top of it is level with the top of the cylinder head.... (zx9R engine)...

If you do not use a flow through system, ie only 1 small 1/4" pipe from the highest part of the system you can put the header tank anywhere as
it just becomes an expansion tank.
The pressure cap lives on this, as water expands it fills the tank, as it contracts it just gets drawn back. Look at SD1 rovers etc.
