Parkers Guide
How accurate is it?
I am looking for a diesel for getting to and from work - probably a golf GT TDI. Why do all the private advertisers seem to think their car is worth
£1k more than top price in Parkers guide?

The GT TDI is a good car and seem to be limited therefore the price is high.

Do the individual sellers state which power output there is and does the guide differentiate between them?? IIRC there are three different power
outputs 130, 150 and 180 - I drove what I believe was a 180 hire car from ERAC and boy did it go.

Are you talking about Golfs? If you are i really like the Leons. I drive a cupra(150bhp) regularly and its much better than my GTI. Sportier handling,
better seats, cheaper if not a little rattly. I think a lot of people overvalue their cars. Id use parkers and what car and sell mine at the highest
value - when your a seller your the one loosing money, just means you the buyer has got to beat them down.

Because modern s/h Golfs are poor value cars, their residuals do not really represent the true value of what is a fairly average hatchback. People
see the VW badge and are instantly happy to pay silly money, even though the fabled VW reliability is a largely a thing of the past, and can't
hold a candle to the Jap stuff.
To actually answer you question, Parkers is not a good price guide, it's rarely accurate. Glass's Guide is far better, and is what is
actualy used by the trade.
If you like VAG, look at Seat or Skoda for vastly better VFM but using the same components.

Because they expect you to try to beat them down.

Of course you are more than welcome to have a drive in mine, I checked a while back when me and my dad went over to the Somme and other drivers are
covered under the work insurance as long as you have the drivers permission, which you have
Think mine is based on the Golf (I think)
Cheers
