Poorly VW T5

Coming home tonight suddenly experienced a lack of power on my VW T5 Transporter , then a loud pop and tons of black smoke from the exhaust, managed to limp home.

Looked under the bonnet and found the rubber hose to what looks like the throttle body? had blown off.

There are two little tabs on the pipe that are supposed to engage with a circlip, but they are both fecked, so its impossible to re attach.

Tried a temporary fix with a bungee cord, but as soon as you rev the motor it blows off again, also there is a lot of oil inside the pipe

I know sod all about modern diesels, and i couldn't get my head around why the pipe should be pressurized, as its on the inlet side? or if it was normal to have engine oil present.

Any ideas?

Al.

He He just read my post and thought Stupid Sod, its a turbo, of course its pressurized

LOL!

I had a Passat TDi that split that hose a couple of times. Luckily it was fixed by a main dealer as it was a company car.

Good luck. I'd guess it wouldn't be too hard to change it yourself?

Mike

The only thing to worry about is you may have damaged the turbo. They don't like boost pipes blowing off!

Thought that may cheer you up or encourage some more 'vin rouge' medicine to be consumed!

Does it have a throttle plate? Some diesels do these days, mabye with a vacuum control? Just wondered if something controling it could have gone wrong & shut it while under boost causing a sudden rise in boost blowing your inlet pipe off.
Fairly normal to have an oilyness on the inside of a turboed engine inlet pipe, nothing in itself to worry over.
Mabye you know about this forum already but if not have a look about & ask on here: http://vwt4forum.co.uk/index.php?
It's T4 based but caters for the t5 a bit too.

How many miles as it done ? What year ?

Ive had exactly the same on mine if you had lots of black smoke it will have been the pipe before the turbo ?

Ive had that happen but it went back on even though its a bit fiddly, mine to had a film of oil inside it.

I have also had a pipe after the turbo split, rectified under warranty.

If its done under 100k is it not under warranty ?

BTW a regular occurrence on these it seems, another one is water pump.

Thanks for the advice fellas, have just checked and it seems to still be in warranty until September, which is nice
Trip to the V.W Stealer tomorrow me thinks.

Its only done 32k Jon, pretty sure its the pipe after the turbo, possibly from the intercooler, as it seems to disappear into the front somewhere near the rad.

Just glad it waited until today, and didn't let go on Friday!!
Al.

That's the one I had split, rubber Connecting to metal via a big fcuk off clip either side ?

Good news they changed mine under warranty.

Bad news I had to wait a week.

Good news they gave me a vehicle.

Bad news you will have to go to a VW commercial dealer rather than a normal dealership.

dunno where your closest is ? Mine is Sheffield, guilders.
