Stainless MIG welding?

I need to make some alterations to my exhaust....and although a kind member on here has offered to allow me to use his TIG welder if I can get the exhaust to him, It would be so much easier if I could weld the pipe "in situ" on the car/engine...

So, If I put stainless wire and pure argon into my MIG welder, what sort of quality welds will I get?

Will the welds just rust and crack?

Or will they hold together ok, all be it looking a bit FUGLY?

The exhaust will be pretty much hidden by the bodywork, so cosmetically im not really too bothered.....Just need it to cope with the heat and vibration

Stainless stick welding does it for me as thats just what i am doing at the moment welding on stainless adapter pipes so i can slip it on to make an extra box to keep the noise down and to stop me from going deaf ,you've just got to be careful ,

Mike

If it can be done it i will be done .

I have been tacking my exhaust together over the weekend. It is my first time with stainless (and I am very much an amateur welder). I find you need a higher power setting, and wire speed than with mild steel. Also, I tend to get more burn back of the wire if your torch position isn't spot on. The welds are not as pretty as a TIG, but I hope functional. I cant decide if I should MIG it completely or grind off the tops of my tacks, then get it TIGd at work...
