What a day!!!
Well i've just stopped for a cold drink after spending the afternoon on a job on the tintop that i thought would take me about 3 or 4 hours but
still got tons to do after 5 hours and need a trip to the local garage tomorrow now!!
I've had a horrible bunch of groaning noises coming from the front suspension of the pile of French rubbish (Saxo VTR) for a couple of weeks so
last weekend decided to investigate. Saw the anti-roll bar bushes were perished and there was visible free play so found some of these eventually
(after the autofactor got the wrong ones in for me) and fitted them in the week. Loads better but still a few noises. Decided to replace the wishbone
bushes also with Poly Bushes as these didnt look to good and are another potential weakness so after these arrived from Flo-Flex this morning i
decided to change them.
One wishbone off took about 20 mins, and then dumped a load of gearbox oil into the drain pan which i had remembered to put under the gearbox /
driveshaft.............. and then it came straight out of a small split in the drain pan and all over the drive!!! NICE!!!!
Oh well - sod all i can do about it now so decided to remove the rubber / metal bush with the trusty blowtorch and Tiger tool number one (big hammer).
2 hours that complete pig took to get out!! Oh well i though - at least its out!! Check the poly bush fits, lube it up, insert the metal sleeve,
copper grease the outer ball joint ready to reassemble..... hold on that doesnt feel right....... knackered balljoint!!! AARGH!!!
At least the local autofactors have them in and i have a mate at the MOT test centre with a great big press so can hopefully get two new balljoints
fitted tomorrow.
Right, i'm off to set fire to the other wishbone bush and maybe the Saxo petrol tank. Its looking a good option at the moment!! I've
decided I hate cars now!!
Rant over

And what about the drive, when are you going to sort that out? What is the good lady going to say when she sees it?
Seriously though, I feel your pain

I feel your pain!!!
A "quick" CV joint change on the tintop Micra turned out to be a 6 hour epic involving heat, bloods, sweat, tears and two (!!!) broken
angle grinders.....

Fortunately the good lady doesnt live with me but i still have a hell of a job ahead of me to get that oil up. I have a load of rags down at the
moment soaking up the worst of the oil and am thinking of putting down some cement dust to soak up as much as possible later (last time i did that it
rained though with obvious consequences!!! ) Its all under the car whish i cant really get to as its on axle stands until i get these balljoints
fitted. Just finished the 2nd one now anyway and whilst the balljoint seems ok the gaiter doesnt look to clever so i'm going to spend the extra
£10 and get the 2nd one done too while its off.

Many auto-factors (and Halfrauds) sell stuff you can throw onto the oil spill to stop it spreading around and to soak up as much as possible.
They also sell drive cleaner - but don't use it on asphalt drives, as it'll dissolve it!
