Extra power required for towing, any idea's
Basicly i am after just a bit more power from My Rover 75 tourer, 1.8 k series
while towing a Caravan (first one to laugh gets it ok !!)
Normal day to day driving is not really a problem, but towing is painfull on the car
My initial thoughts were along the lines of super unleaded / fuel additives
any good ideas welcome
and no i am not going to fit an electrical turbo or HHO conversion !!
regards
steve

Take your flat cap off when driving - that will give you an extra 20 - 30mph worth of power!!
On a more serious note, have you looked into chipping it (Superchips et al)?? Worth an extra 8bhp apparently (superchips website) but i believe
driveability is better which is probably more important as this probably reflects the torque increases you get.

bigger throttle body (from an elise or MG version) + a free flow air filter should release a few BHP

Nitrous Oxide should give you at least a mile a minute! If you pipe some into the car you'll get a laugh a minute as well!!!

It would be worth looking at the throttle body to see if its the restrictive one (there's a little arm coming out of the side of it that stops
you opening the throttle more than 45 degrees).
If its that then hacking off the arm and allowing full open throttle should help though I'm not sure whether the ECU would like it or whether
you'ld need a re-map....
Quite why Rover did that I'm not sure unless it was a stupidly easy way of making a high power version of the same car (ie cripple the throttle
body of the low power one)...
But as already said for towing you want grunt. And that normally means cubes or a diesel.

If you speak to Kent they may well be able to supply towing cams specially designed for the purpose. Trials drivers have been using towing cams for
years for increased torque.

Seems very generous to give a caravan to someone who laughs...
I think a diesel is what you really need.
