Nice people at Sky

As I have just been notified of an increase in my package going up a pound to £22 I thought this is the time to cancel.
Phoned them up and they are installing foc Sky plus to keep me on.
Result......Thanks Sky

Slightly off topic but...

The multi-room thing on sky, where you can get extra cards for £5/month each. Sky stop you giving the card to a mate by making the boxes dial up, and checking that they both call from the same caller ID.

However, if you had a VoIP to regular phone adaptor that support T.38 'fax bypass' protocol on each box, hooked up to the same SIP account, would the boxes be able to dial up through it? Therefore both showing the same caller ID?

Disclaimer: Obviously I'm not condoning this, just asking if anyone thinks it's possible?

In simple terms....

"Could you fool two Sky boxes to think they were in the same house, when actually they were miles apart, and therefore share the bill with a mate/mates"

One of these days I'll fire up my old VoIP router and see if the box can dial out using it. If it can, the rest should be easy.

Yup, same here with Virgin.
I rang up and said "I can't believe you're got rid of Sky One- I can't watch Lost anymore. I want to leave"
They said "okay, see ya "

In theory yes as (AFAIK) they're just looking at the CLID. However, I disconnected both my boxes from the phone line 5 minutes after I went totally skitz at the installed for trying to staple an extension lead all the way across my house.

Never heard a dicky bird from them...

Whereas my dad plugged his second box into the his second line and had a threatening letter that they were detecting a different number...and he went skitz and the poor CSR on the phone....

Moral of the story (IMO)...is unplug the things 2 minutes after they leave...

The being showered with special deals if you threaten to leave doesn't happen as much as it used to. Different industry but when I renewed my car insurance a couple of months ago I phoned my insurer up - who I'd been with for 4 years, never claimed for anything etc etc - and said that I'd got a cheaper quote....."Ok sir, I'll cancel the renewal on your policy" was the reply....... she didn't even ask how much the cheaper quote was never mind try to match/beat it!

Regarding Virgin, we phoned them up to cancel movies and sport as we never watch them - ok, we'll cancel those straight away they said (and did - almost instantly!) then without telling us billed us £100 for the second (ancient) box we've got in the bedroom as apparently the computer now saw it as a 'new service' - and we even got a letter telling us to be in on a certain date so a man could come round and fit it!
