New member (and owner!)
Hi guys
Ive been doing the usual lurking on your site now for a few months and have now just purchased a locost and thought i better say hi to fellow
owners!
I have bought a 91 registered locost based on the book plans. It hasn't been used for at least a year, but the fellow who owned it (I think he
sold as was getting on abit) has had it mot'ed every year since it was built.
The car itself is abit tatty, but it is a good base to start from as it starts and drives (and stops lol). As the car is pre SVA so there are a few
things I am not happy about - solid column, wiring etc. so i will be doing a partial rebuild over the winter.
The engine smokes abit too, it is a 1650 gt with twin 40's. so that will be taken out a few more thou I guess!
Anyways, sorry about the long post got abit carried away!
P.s I am 28 and live in bromsgrove (south of birmingham!)
Cheers

Welcome young person
I think you'd be better off re engining your car than rebuilding, though with what I'll leave up to you.
Some will say a bike engine, whereas those of us with a bit more sense prefer a few more cc's and another four pots

Why bother with the old smoking boat anchor? Get it ripped out, stick a four pot jap screamer in there and add some lightness. You'll never
regret it.
Go on..... you KNOW it makes sense.
Oh yeah and welcome to the forum

Wow so many replies in a couple of hours!!
Sorry about the ageist comment oldtimer, I guess the are alot more "seasoned" locost builders than I realised lol.
I have thought about going the bec route and fitting a zetec. Whilst there is no real budget for this car, I am trying to save money for other things
and a hayabusa or R1 would blow and hole in that! I also thought about the zetec alot, but the management side of it put me off!
I wanted to stay with the crossflow as it is pretty simple and hopefully in the state of tune it is in, it will be more than quick enough for me!!
I will get some pictures up soon!!
Thanks

If all you're used to is production saloons, then you'll find a seven with a reasonably well-tuned crossflow VERY lively! I'd
recommend that you stay with that until you're comfortable with the car, THEN worry about upgrades.
One caution: if you haven't had much experience of RWD cars like these, watch out! In slippery conditions (e.g. wet roads) they can be spiteful
if you're too quick on the throttle, requiring a quick response on the wheel to bring it back into line. Tons of fun when you get the hang of
it though...

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy
