Need help with dilemma - what to do with my old Alfa??
I bought a 147 a few months back to replace my 145 Cloverleaf and having laughed at the £250 p/ex offer one garage gave me I decided to keep it, I now
have no idea what to do with it. The car only has 88k on the clock and the engine is strong as an ox and pulls like crazy, it's a really quick
car.....for what it is. I originally thought the engine might make a decent donor but it was too much hassle getting mated up to a suitable RWD
box.
Rather foolishly it's been stood a couple of months and has now run out of tax and test, but still starts and runs ok. I don't
particularly want to put it through the test as I've no doubt it will need a few bits which in Alfa money is usually £500, which would mean
although it would put the value up, it just wouldn't be worthwhile.
Then I wondered if it might be worth taking hill climbing with my mate, but the insurance to drive it there and back (no trailer) and time spent doing
that instead of the Indy means it's not really feasible.
The missus is starting to get a bit ticked off with it now as it's in the way and I could do with the space as well. The missus suggested
whacking it on Ebay just to get rid or I'd even thought about stripping it down for parts but seems a real shame as it's not a bad car
really, and I'd struggle to move the shell from where it is anyway.
So........ what the hell do I do with it????

Could potentially make a good donor for a Middy.

Yeah I thought about that and I actually put up a question on Mango's recent posting about it but it would likely cost too much to get through
the MOT to qualify.

What g/box do other Alfa engined builders use? There's a couple of V6 builders on here, maybe they could advise.
Would make a nice engine for the Indy.
Other than that I'd ebay it and plough the money into the Indy.

You could get it MOTed to see what it fails on. You might be surprised and it not need a lot. With 12 months MOT, it could sell for more than the
cost of repairs. If it fails on something big, it is worth no less that it was before the MOT and you're a few quid worse off.
Stick it on eBay with a starting bid enough to cover eBay and paypal fees and get shut of it, or, strip it for parts. Sell on eBay and weigh in the
rest for scrap.
Personally, I'd have sold it as a runner while I could, or I'd get it through its MOT then sell it on.

Ours amazed us by sailing through it's MOT the other week. Must have been pure luck that it lasted the whole test without beeping at them to say
something was horribly wrong, usually it's the VDC/ABS turning itself off. The airbag light came on on the way home from the test
£250 trade in is a joke. Dealers around here are so desparate to shift stock at the moment you can usually get them to offer at least £500 for
something they're only going to weigh in for scrap. Looks like I might have a bit of a fight on my hands getting rid of it when we try and trade
it in for an estate in a few weeks
