Not sure about this one........

Received this message tonight re the Senna replica helmet I have on ebay, have removed names, but if the guy works for this company could he not just make his own ? Have they stopped making them full stop ? Guy as zero feedback with new account opened today ?
The auction will run to end anyways. I didnt know the value and would have most likely settled for less, think the one i was saving for myself may have to go the same direction ?

Hy, I,m xxxxxxxxx. I am really interested by the helmet. I'm fan of Senna. real fan.. I,m manager of STAND21 Uk, a racewear company. www.stand21.fr. if you have a look on the web site, you will see that we used to supply Arton senna with is suits,gloves(1 kind were created for him)..etc...my chairman was a good friend of A Senna. I get them all the time at work. I've led a few right up the garden path - I've had one up two days in a row at 5AM waiting for a "delivery".

Was it one of these guys?

Contact: M. Nicolas Borsato & M. Guillaume Baca

I'd be careful and don't offer to meet them in a car park somewhere....

I was watching this as a possible present to my neighbour as he is a big Senna fan, but this wasn't the price I had in mind

Got to be more fake than Jordan's boobs that one. First question i'd always ask myself when i get a message like that is "why do they need to send the email??". There's just no point to that one really is there. If someone wants to bid then just bid surely?

I'm not entirely convinced it is fake. Firstly, it's not a 419, as this refers to the Nigerian Penal code for advance fee fraud, which I do not believe this to be.

The email was clearly written by someone who is not English (they are likely French) but then the website uses the .fr domain indicating they are French so that's not really a surprise. The UK arm of this company is in fact in Kent so this ties in. The only difficulty then is determining if the website actually links to the Ebay user. It's not clear from the email but are they actually trying to buy it outside of Ebay, i just read it that they hope they win it??

You're right to be suspicious of unsolicited approaches on Ebay but I aint so sure about this one. It just seems a lot of effort for a fraudster to go to looking up companies and names etc when they could quite easily be targetting mobile phones and laptops with pre-written scripts.

I tend to agree though, possibly just being "polite" in a french way!
and his inexperience, new user 0 feedback is probably showing through too.

He surely is trying to buy outside ebay though "Any chance to get an arrangement"
If he is one of these guys he's probably looking for such things and just gone wow gotta have that.
I think I'd try him with a buy it now money more like the other on sale from Brazil for £500 = £82 postage!!! and see if he bites?

Well I asked the question politely, why if you manage a company that specializes in helmet painting would you want to bid on a replica that you could produce yourself ? I got this reply below, I really don't feel to comfortable about it as above he has bid on it, why follow it up with such a email, seems really strange to me, plus he only registered with ebay yesterday and by bidding on it it could give others the impression I was "uping" the price by "shill bidding"

Reply........

"We never supplied Ayrton senna for his helmet.
I can get a great repilca of his suits but no chance to get an helmet replica. i can get the painting on one of our helmet but i'm not interesting.
just want a real replica"

I have blocked his bids, what do you guys think ? Right move, wrong move, just doesn't ring true with me I'm afraid.

Because he's just the UK franchisee and has no say in what they make perhaps?

It's def a bit odd, though I still wonder whether it's because he's a frog?

If your not comfortable with it, probably best to reject it as you have then?

I have just spoke with the guy, seems an ok sort, I think joneh inadvertently put the willys up me a bit when he came back with the guys name spot on as I had removed the guys name from my original post, its a shame but my recent and ongoing dealings with ebay make me a bit twitchy these days as ebay do naff all to protect anyone selling, in fact they seem to do all they can to assist fraudulent buyers.

I have removed the block I put on and feel a bit silly now.

Their website has the company address and two email addresses, just send them an email and ask what they would be willing to pay.
Run by Nicholas Borsatto and Guillaume Baca, (not English) they put their emails up there as well. Contact page

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I don't know. I wouldn't. Too many red flags. I am at the point that I will give things away rather than deal with strange people: I do enough of that at work.
