Ebay question
All, I wonder if I could have your opinion on this. The Surf is currently on the bay and I've had the following email. Do you think it's
legit? He has 153 positive feedbacks and has bought several Surfs in the last two months. Any comments appreciated.
Hi there,
First let me say I'm buying cars off ebay for export to Europe. I'm paticulary interested in Hiluxes - please see my feedback. My next
visit to the UK will be on 5th Nov, therefore I would lilke to ask if I collection on 5th will be ok.
I'm offering £950 for the car considering the small bit that need fixing and collection on 5ht Nov. I can send you a deposit via PayPal straight
away. Looking forward for your reply.
Many thanks

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Paypal deposit with the rest in cash? Sounds good. Only issue might be that aren't Paypal holding onto payments until positive feedback is sent.
IE you won't get the paypal money until after the deal is finished....

oh, wait, collection on the 5th nov... as long as he's not asking you to send ship it to his nigerian contact in some weird country.
as long as he pays the deposit by pay pal, and cash on collection, you can't go far wrong i think

if he's bought a dark blue over silver Surf, facelift model with the underslung spare wheel, in his last few feedbacks then he's probably
the same guy that bought my mate Phil's Surf.
Same sort of email, guy was legit, Phil drove it up to meet him (at buyers expense) the money changed hands, no probs whatsoever.
There are scams about but also genuine people in strange sircumstances too

I had a 700 payment reversed one month after the transaction , so it's not as safe as they tell you.
Must try harder

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES DO ANY BUSINESS, IT IS A SCAM!!!!!!!
I work for an Honda dealership, I know first hand. A customer of ours was unhappy with their part exchange price and decided that she would like to
sell the car privately. She advertised on autotrader and e-bay. She received a similar e-mail and went ahead with the transaction. The person sent
an cheque from an EU country and wanted to pick the car up from her this was to be done before the cheque cleared. Needless to say I warned the
customer to the scam and she did not release the car until cleared funds (never cleared).

Take a £50 paypal deposit, rest beer tokens on collection, I sold a kit car same situation with no problems, the Dutch in this case just love UK
registered kits gets them on the road in Holland much easier.
Ive been had over via paypal several times but I would have no concerns at all in this case with a small paypal deposit.

Bin it. Tell him to buy someone elses. Why take the risk? YOU have the asset, not him. I wouldnt take more than a grand in cash, and even then id
check each one. Lots of forgeries around at the moment.
Payment in full in advance for overseas bidders. He has your address if he has bought it, so youre not escaping if you rip him off.
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

Payment in full in advance is more risky than cash in this case ? see above, is it a £700 reversal after one whole month ?
The £950 offered brings it into your not accept more than a grand to ?
Who do we trust to purchase, an Englishman with a bankers draft or a European with cash ? Which one carries most risk ?
I'll give £750 cash for it now, give me his details and I'll make a quick £200 on the deal, job done.
