I've just flown a helicopter!!
I got a trial heli flight from the inlaws as a present.
I'm just back from flying an R22 over Newcastle. A great day with some great views as we flew over the Tyne at 2000ft.
The instructor was really good and I had full control of the heli, it took a fair bit of concentration, but I did have a head start as I fly radio
controlled helis.
Now I want my pilots licence, definetely not lowcost!
Cheers
Ian

Now that's just too tempting..........back to reality, still a little out of my price bracket. Now where did I put that lottery ticket!

Ian,
Start buying some of the "Pilot" type mags and get yourself to the states to do the (UK) license.
It'll save you quite a lot of money
I've been in a helo once and thought everyone should have one!!

I did a trial lesson last year, in an R22, what an amazing experience. Didn't like the hourly rate though for full lessons. To get a PPL(H)
would cost

NO....that is not good advice lol...
I tried that and it ended up costing me more and taking me longer than if I had stayed in the UK..
If you want to fly in the UK, then learn here....flying in the perfect Florida weather is not a good way to train for the UK!!
I am on about 125 hours now......and loving it....but as you say...definitely not a lo-cost hobby....its fooking addictive though...
What you want to be able to do is...hover down a line painted on the ground whilst doing a gentle and controlled pirouette whilst maintaining a 5 foot
hover height... So much fun!

I fly R/c helis too I wish I could fly the real thing but knowing me if I try it I will end up sticking to it!
I've kinda gone off flying full size as thats my job, but to fly a heli as a hobby.... wish I could afford it!
