R1 Engine age
Hi
Anyone out there able to age a R1 engine by its engine number?
Mine is either a 98 or 99 which hasn't been a problem until now but I now need a new clutch.
Apparently the 98 and 99 plates are different.
Any help appreciated .

There was a recall for 1998 engines to change the clutch basket. Most bikes were changes and so have the same clutch as 1999 engines. 99 engines
have 1 more plate. You could take yours off and count the plates. Buy a replacement with the same number and you're OK.

You don't happen to know how many plates there would be in total.
