Helmet noise !
Just been out for a blast and as the weather is a bit cooler 7c I put the helmet on.
No idea why but when I wear the lid the whole car sounds noisier ie exploding on overrun, induction, The car is very noisy anyway ( 106db @4500 ) but
wearing a lid makes everything more enhanced, enough to think about using earplugs. I have suffered a headache before now upon return which
is'nt a problem when I don't wear one.
It is an Arai and the visor stays down.
Maybe the noise is resonating,
Curious !
Any ideas ?

Best cure for helmet noise when on a blat,is to make sure your flys are done up
If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you have always got

Inside helmet hearing loss is a problem for professional bikers - who wear ear plugs as well..... I did when I rode a bike (then I worked in A+E......
and stopped).

Helmet noise!
I bet your wearing a closed face helmet, when we went from open face to close faced in tin-top racer the noise was frightening, ear plugs a must! That
said don't block too much noise or you may not hear the sound of screeching tires behind you.

Strange how it is still louder with a lid on. Ain't got to worry about tyres locking up cos if I could hear them I'm probably dead anyway,
or a little bit shorter than I am now !

I have a flip-front full-face helmet - the wind roar through the join is really loud. I can cover the join with a finger and most of the noise goes
away (I only try one side at a time when I'm driving! )
I find the modern earplugs (the ones that have a rounded end) very uncomfortable and I get earache after a while - I prefer the traditional E.A.R.
yellow foam cylindrical plugs, but they're hard to find in shops locally. I can get them mail-order, but I really don't need 1000 pairs
at a time...
I'm seriously thinking of changing to a non-flip full-face helmet, as they're a fair bit lighter than the flip-front ones.

My lid does'nt let noise in thru gaps or loose fit, it just seems to transmit in like a loudspeaker in reverse if that makes the blindest bit of
sense.
Just thought... group buy ear plugs

locost earplugs = small bits of toilet paper (unused!) or tissue rolled and then moistened before ramming into ear.
the helmet think may be that it is pickiung up vibrations and acting like a sounding board?

Try a balaclava under your helmet, it cuts a lot of noise, keeps your head warm and cuts misting if it covers your mouth like mine does.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Earplugs are cheap. Do you still have Boots?
I can make custom musician's earplugs though if anyone wants to come over. They are $200 cdn per pair, and come in attenuations of 9, 15 or 25
dB. The advantage is that you can still hear quiet conversation while they're on, and yet your hearing is protected from the loud sound.
