Bloomin Scaremongering Media (Again!)

Oh, they're really hacking me off right now! When will they be happy? Perhaps when the world is on it's knees maybe!

Do they not realise that the more they whip up the recession storm, then the more likely they are to drive the country into a nasty hole - thereby reducing the chances of the public being in a financial position to buy tabloids... thereby increasing the chance of putting themselves out of work! Incredible!

It's breakfast telly that's set me off today... reporting that shoplifting is up due to the 'downturn'. ABSOLUTE NONSENSE! It's a seasonal variation that's been occurring since crime stat gathering began... shoplifting stats have ALWAYS gone through the roof in late November and throughout December. It's called the Christmas effect!

And fine they know it.

I watch the news but pick the channels with the good looking birds then just watch them rather than listen....

I have now accepted that they peddle a load of sh1t 98% of the time and we don't see any news.

Sky news this morning "BREAKING NEWS! WOOLWORTHS SHARE SUSPENDED WHILE THEY SEARCH A BUYER!" Isn't that normal practice?? Not news at all!

Ships are being hijacked off Somalia and we don't see a thing about, or whats behind it, to me, thats real news!

Ooo, don't get me started on this....

The Media in general are becoming more and more opinionated and more and more trying to put slants on everything they report? More and more they seem to be telling me how to think about some news story or another, rather than just telling me the facts as accurately as possible and letting me make my own mind up. They also seem to want to wallow in the worst news and gloat knowingly that they are somehow better and more knowledgeable than anyone else. And then there are the Press led witch hunts...don't even get me started on that!

I know this sort of think has been going on forever, but not on this sort of level. It always used to be mainly the News Papers that did this, and then only on party political grounds, but increasing it's more and more widespread, getting into all other forms of the news, for all the stories.

I think it all boils down to the fact that they all have a budget to balance and a profit to make and, of course, a billionaire with his own agenda running the show - so what if the truth slides a bit provided the money's coming in and the boss is happy

I just can't trust a word they say any more

What gets my goat is the dumbing down, talking to us as if we were 4 yrs old or retards

A couple of weeks ago for example flying around the country in a helicopter over "recession torn britain" and numerous walks down "recession street" with pathetic graphics.

Theres no two ways about it the media have talked us into this recession. As said above the newspapers for years had an agenda with TV news the only source for the truth, now they are peddling the same cr@p.
Best if we all switch it off, when their viewing figures drop perhaps they will get the message.
Cheers,
Bob

That'll be the BBC1 news, which I also am inclined to watch. I used to think that they were the best of a bad lot, now I think they are the least worst of a really awful lot.

Apart from the agendas, hidden and overt, there is the also, the thing that I really hate, the dreaded 'sentence swapping'. Apparently they think our attention spans are so short that they need to split news items into one sentence for him, then one for her, then one for him etc.

I expect in the news 'trade' they have jargon names for us viewers, and those names probably indicate something of the degree of contempt in which they hold us

I think the opinions here are widespread, isn't it about time they listened to Joe public ?

I remember and its not to long ago the newsreader was almost like a friend that came into your room to tell you what had happened during the day, these days it feels like its some big bully walking in to gloat. Look at me me me and listen to all this gloom gloom gloom I have to tell you about, btw I've beefed it up a little but who cares.

They sit with big red arrows behind them pointing downwards, someone gets injured, hurt or worse they are straight onto 4 people could have done this, that the other, hindsight, wonderful thing.

They often ask "we want your horror stories" so 1/2 a million people do some sort of activity for example and have a great time, it goes wrong for one, what gets reported ????

The current financial climate, fan/supporter or whatever of the current government is it really just the UK that as problems ? And they are doing a great job of talking these problems up. My mortgage is 11% lower than it was under the now opposition government, report that for a start !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Look at your mortgage payments (if you have one) now imagine how much they would be if the rate was 15 3/4%, oh and don't forget the 5 million on the dole at that time to, oh and the then goverment advice "tell them to eat grass"

I hate them, strong word but one I'm happy to use in this case, they wont be reading this btw, they will be in the bins behind Whitehall looking for the next scoop..........

You don't think the crappy state of the global economy caused by irresponsible lending of money by the banks (driven by massively spiralling house prices), followed by a reluctance to lend any money had anything to do with it then? The media caused it all?

I share your hatred of the media, nothing they say can be trusted, but I don't accept they are the cause of the recession.

The Media???

Its got NOTHING to do with the truth.

Its ALL about SELLING Newspapers.
Its a business, and the populace dont realise it

I stopped buying newspapers 20 years ago, after witnessing two incidents that were later reported in the National papers. It was completely different to what I saw first hand.

As I said, its about selling papers, magazines, and NOT about truth and accuracy.

Fair comment about the media not starting the ball rolling on the recession front...but they're sure as hell pushing it with all their might now in the hope of gathering pace!

I never buy papers now - don't know if that's due to them going SO FAR downhill, or me maturing... maybe both. I occasionally still squint at the broadsheets if they're lying around, but even they have fallen into the 'sensationalist' trap!

TV reporting is sadly following suit!

I disagree. For a start, recession is all about peoples confidence in the economy. Thinks have only changed a little in the last 4 months, but public confidence is shattered.

You have runs on both banks and currencies, this can ONLY be caused by people loosing faith and ditching shares or currency quick.

If the banks had quietly managed with their problems we wouldnt be in this mess.

also, that junk recently about the considered VAT rise, where is the news in that? Idiots. Of course VAT would be mentioned whilst discussing ways of raising revenue in future.

And it seems the BBC has stopped proof reading its articles:

"...and eight were deemed to ill to return to the UK on Wednesday."

Ok so the media havent caused the recession as such but they are all talking it up. Every evening its gloom gloom, throw enough mud at a wall etc. It knocks confidence Ive been in business since 1981 and worked through all the recessions but talking to 90 % of my clients at the moment Ive never seen so many hacked off and not spending.
All of these problems have been directly imported from the good old USA and it seems our economy is suffering more than theirs. Im sure most of europe just gets in with it.
It seems the US coughs and the UK cr@ps its pants, which can be directly traced back to the media putting 2 and 2 together and coming up the 106.
Cheers,
Bob

I happened to see some of the BBC1 news this lunchtime, and they had the ghastly Emma Simpson reporting on the troubles at Woolworths, and boy was she enjoying it, the smirks were almost audible. She has an unpleasant voice at the best of times, but when applied to what should have been a downbeat report, it sounded as if she was really enjoying Woolworth's plight

This is one of my biggest issues with them. It's that barely contained delight they seem to have when they're reporting on something bad

The BBC website is about the only place I can stand to read any news these days, and even then it gets it wrong a lot
