1/2 way through engine swap but don't seem to be able to do any more than open garage door, take a peek in then walk away.........

Chris is going to do the loom for me I just need to get it ready, one engine mount to do, gear linkage, clutch and a new fuel return line, just seems
easier at mo to sit here in the warm than venture into the garage.

Every day spent on it just now is a day you don't need to spend on it when it's warm and the sun is shining.
Or maybe you would rather it was unfinished around May or June ?

I think its just the Xmas slump every year just before Xmas I swear I'm going to to get loads of stuff done, then reality dawns.
After sitting inside for 2 days stuffing myself daft and boozing a freezing cold garage seems like hard labour.
I suppose the way to look at it is its a hobby after all and when a hobby feels like work its no longer a hobby.

hmm your not alone.I spent most of the day out there yesterday and enjoyed it. It was cold but the sun was shinning.
today however the sun is not shinning and its even colder, I just cant get of my arse even with the prospect of iva looming.

Watch some clips on youtube of first start ups then go outside and thatll make you want to be at that stage aswell!

i had lots i thought about doing over christmas ........ done none. Far too cold. Its a hobby, its fun.
I'll go back in the garage in a week or two (when i've got thermals and heaters and stuff going).
Plan is to figure out some really easy / simple to make parts and do them, then walk away. That way i prove to myself that even though its 2 degrees
its fun and i'm making progress. Hopefully that will encourage me to go in more.

Have some of my motivation. I have realised I have till Mid feb to get mine through SVA as I am completely tied up with work after that until August,
to the extent I am not at home!
As such I am trying to push on everywhere I can but waiting on parts at the moment, should have those tomorrow though.
On the cold front however, all my Hammerite Spray cans have decided it is too cold to work today. Which is bloody annoying.

Go into the garage, put the electric heater on, go back into the house for 30 minutes, then think about how much the heater has cost you for the last
30 minutes. Once you've done that you'll not want to waste the money & go do something, then think of us poor sods who haven't
got a garage & an SVA in about 4 weeks.

I find the best thing it just to set yourself small targets. It's too easy to get overwhelmed by big jobs and mentally decide it's much
easier to go back into the warmth and have a cup of tea 
Just go the garage and do something. Doesn't matter what, no time limits. A little bit of wiring, tidying, polishing something. It doesn't
matter. What it does though is get you into the garage in the first place and hopefully you'll end up seeing something you've "just
got to do before you leave". I often end up getting a lot more done on these occasions than when I plan a mega garage-session!!!

I usually get this problem when I've got too much to do.
Write a list of jobs that need doing and then pick out the ones that you have the tools / parts to do today. Start at the top and soon enough
you'll be up to your elbows in it without even realising.

Just had another thought, I have a bright new shiny 50p piece 2008 version, how about I come down to your house, give you the bright new shiny 50p
piece & takeaway your kit, your engine & any other bits & bobs that you don't want. Then you can sit in the house unmotivated, but
not guilty about being unmotivated as you have nothing to be motivated about

Even if you go out and clean one bolt you will feel better!
You might then feel inspired to clean another as your hands are already dirty

get yourself a whiteboard or a pad and pen so you can list all the things you need to do. Even if you do this in the garage for 20 minutes while
walking round the car then its a bit of progress.
I found that any project i have done seemed to become messy as i tackled one job, then got bored and started another job and then got annoyed as i
wasnt completing any of it.
So this winter with my engine swap i created a list on the whiteboard and tackled one think at a time and only when i could tick it off would i move
onto one of the other jobs.
Ive been in my garage all xmas holiday and it hasnt gone above freezing here in the midlands (still frozen now and im in there in about 10 minutes). A
hat, old coat and a warm drink sorted me out and i only got myself a heater yesterday after my feet became ill from the cold. Music also helps, get an
MP3 player or fit a stereo in the garage and time flys by when you are jumping about to dance naition 2002. lol

Whiteboard is a good idea. A bit of contiboard / melamine works well. The dry wipe marker pens sometimes take a bit of white spirit to get off but
hey...

Whenever my build stalled, I used to try to blag a passenger ride in a completed car. That always motivated me to get on with my own.
