From what I've heard of Coldplay which I admit isn't much, they write a good riff which ought to be a solid foundation, then they build a
pile of not very good stuff on top of it.
This particular song is very reminiscent of 80's U2 but without the quality
I've never forgiven the singer for murdering You Only Live Twice (although the rest of the band played it well)

No I got the right video! Can anyone explain, and I'm honestly not trying to be funny, but what's clever about the video. It's just
puppets right? Like that Team America film?

Whereas I have been known to run across the workshop to turn off the radio when they are about to play one of his 'songs'

I don't know about how clever it is as I'm not a puppeteer, but neither the song or video does it for me! Just find both bland!

The zombies were real, but the makeup was pretty bad.
For a really good pop video, may I direct your attention to the original Stones "It's only rock and roll"

Not availbale in England, according to you tube?

Yes... but you have to put Thriller into the context of its era.
Same as Dire Straits 'Money for Nothing' video or Peter Gabriels 'Sledgehammer'... both look pretty crappy now, but were
ground-breaking stuff in their day!

That's amazing. You never see Punch and Judy stage diving or doing motorcycle stunts. That's the future for puppeteers. Very bland song
though IMO and certainly nothing like U2.

Au contraire, that heavily delayed (echo) constantly repeating riff is straight out of the U2 songbook. Just imagine the same song, slowed down a bit,
with the notes, the words and the perfomance improved and you wouldn't be that far away from some of the U2 greats.

on conclusion from reading this thread:
People are very grumpy and very critical.
They're doing alright for themselves, people wouldn't listen if they were that god awful, right?

Did you watch all of it with the stage dive, stunt bikes and pyrotechnics and the helicopter at the end ? I like Cold Play though. I don't like
James Blunt's music but after seeing him on Top Gear I decided he's an alright bloke I'd like to see Rod Stewart and Robbie
Williams launched from a catapult into the sea somewhere really cold and horrible though.
Edit to add :- U2 are sh!t

Ah... Rod Stewart. Again, not very fashionable nowadays, but boy was he good in his day(s).
One of the best male lead vocalists this country has ever produced (IMHO!).

i happen to not particularly like Brie, yet if someone mentioned that they really liked it I wouldnt go on a tirade:
"Crap band, crap video. Dare i say a kid could have thought of that!"
"they write a good riff which ought to be a solid foundation, then they build a pile of not very good stuff on top of it."
"Just imagine the same song, slowed down a bit, with the notes, the words and the perfomance improved"
Yes of course people are entitled to their own personal opinions. But not their own personal opinons presented as their own personal fact. Each to
their own and freedom of speech does not indicate an implicite right to be overtly critical of somebody because of their opinions.
Unless of course theyre trying to suggest that black is white. Which I would suggest all of the critics on this thread are doing considering the bands
popularity:
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a100539/coldplay-album-goes-platinum-in-three-days.html.
Thanks to the OP for linking the video for anybody else who would rather enjoy a few minutes of musical talent than mock the OPs tastes and
sensibilities.
And for the record: I dont enjoy coldplay at all myself.
