Scrappage

Been working at a large metal processors today and a scrappies last week funny enough, it was heart breaking to see all the decent looking motors some with 12 months ticket being brought in and going straight into the crusher.
Talking to the guys who work on the site they reckon a lot of them were in better nick than what they were driving around in.
Its got to affect kit car building sooner or later.
Cheers,
Bob

There's an interesting article over on Pistonheads where Hyundai have listed some of the cars they'ce received in PX on the scrappage scheme.

Damn shame

Austin 1100 are very rare -- most rotted to nothing in the first two years.

The Nisan Micras will all have the throttlebody fault --- Nissan charge about £450 for the part -- it can be fixed in ten minutes with a soldering iron and araldite.

The local BMW agent has a very nice looking late 80s BMW 3 series with a scrappage sign on it --- made my blood boil this scheme is pointless, ineffective and when it actually functions sometimes downright wasteful destructive.

in the short term perhaps it will affect kit car building, but the scrap scheme was only for a year isn't it? this time next year things will be back to normal again i reckon

They reckon the money will be gone by the first week in august so they scheme will end early.

It is completely pointless.

The funny thing is they're doing this in part under the pretence that it is a "Green Scheme". This is bull. The amount of energy put into building a new car is more than that used to keep these old ones running for a hell of a long time!
In fact you could even argue that kit car/special building is an green hobby, given that we're "recycling" parts that may otherwise be scrapped

The stupid thing is scrappage and a half is lost on the new car as soon as they drive it out of the dealers gate.

It is just a dry joint in the circuit board in the throttle body --- there is a load whole web pages on how to fix it somewhere. But it really says prise the thing open and resolder the pins for the connectors then seal with epoxy or electronic grade silcone

Here is one version
