Toyota iQ - Not that intelligent!!
Just taken delivery of a new Toyota iQ (it's for the missus really). Not a bad little car though really and feels to have a lot more road
presence than you would expect. Lots of really clever features such as the "first?" flat fuel tank, upright diff etc.
I think it's fair to say they have really put some time in on this one, however, one of the main selling points is the combined mpg of 65 or so,
which makes me wonder whjy they made the mpg meter stop at 60??
If you've bought a car as frugal as this you want to see what it's doing mpg wise but as soon as it gets to 60 mpg it just stops?? Not
that clever really?

If it stopped on say 60.2 or 61.3 or something then fair enough but it stops at 60.0 dead, even down hill clutch in it's dead on 60.

the instanteneous mpg on my volvo definitely goes to over 99 - don't htink it does 3 digits - only coasting on downhill at high speed mind.

You'll get less fuel usage if you don't put the clutch in. Clutch in, the ECU keeps squirting fuel to keep the engine turning over,
clutch out the injectors get cut as momentum keeps the engine spinning.

My little C2 hdi manages 58.8 when you give it some stick. The read out is quite accurate as I have measured the amount of diesel I fill up with and
then the miles. When coasting the thing says its doing 999mpg?
How hard can it be?

wierd that, like people are saying, instantaneous mpg should read stupid figures when you coast down hill, because you are essentially moving without
putting any fuel in, so it thinks wahey, we are getting somehwere for very little to no fuel! so if it does stop at 60 its either not very good, very
good indeed (because it intelligently realises that you probably arent really getting 9 million miles to the gallon, and chooses not to tell you
that), or your particular car might have a bit of a problem - perhaps ring up the supplier?

FifthGear did a test on the first show of the new series on MPG claims. Several models (3 I think) and the drivers swapped cars during the test. All
of them recorded almost what the manufacturers claimed.

Funny thing the IQ's fuel running cost works out exactly the same at just over 8p per mile as my lpg fueled Rover 75
