Halfrauds Rant
Iv just spent 40 mins in halfrauds trying to find out whether they had an oil filter for a 2004 fiesta which they didnt (said it was a rare type???)
then tried to find out what ht leads i need for the locost and he directed me to ones for the fiesta
I would understand if it was a chav but this guy has worked there for years (think he must be close to retiring).
I think im going to find somewhere else to get all my parts from

At the local halfords in melton, they staff ALWAYS park across two parking bays ... I'm guessing to stop people scratching their cars but they
still come across and being arses. Then in the last week they've started to park in the disabled bays Idiots
Oh also they know nothing

40 minute seems a bit extreme, did you give him the full reg of the fiesta? if so it should be a 2 minute job. i would expect them to have the part
in if not be able to order it for delivery to the store today. even with newer stores keeping less hard parts on the shelf an oil filter for a fiesta
should be straight forward unless there is a rarity to the one you require.
after a few minutes you should of asked for the manager or duty manager or a product specialist to help you. Or just use the reference list thing on
the shelf near the filters themselves. Just because he works there he may not be from the parts dept.
do you have a trade card, if not go back or call and explain you are a car builder and show some receipts from other suppliers to indicate your spend
level or show some automotive qualifications if you have them and get a trade card, it will restore your faith.
they have not built up the business they have without being able to supply simple car parts 99% of the time..

if you feel strongly about it dont put it on here, go in and speak to the manager, if they are staff cars i guarantee they will be moved in minutes.
if nobody says anything then nothing changes.
probably do park across 2 bays to limit car park collateral damage which can be a pain in the arse if you have to park in these places all day, a lot
to do with other folk who cannot drive and bump and run others cars.
" they know nothing" bit of a sweeping statement???? maybe they dont actually work there.

Yeah, they've ordered it for today but they said it would be in about dinner time so i wont be able to get it until tomorrow.
I didnt have the reg but i had the year and engine size.
I have a trade card. I just showed my IMI college card and they gave me one.

They don't stock the oil filter for a 2006 Focus 1.8 TDCI either, they have to order it in. Not exactly a rare car I would have thought!

Maybe its not a rare car....... but how many 3 year old cars like that are being serviced by a home mechanic?? I'm sure they will stock the most
common items they sell rather than for whats the most common car.

halfords staff are maybe not up to scratch on everything. but they don't get paid a huge amount either. its not his fault they don't stock
that particular oil filter, and its common for different manufacturer cars to have common parts. Jag is still owned by ford isn't it? or was
owned by ford anyway

Good point- I reckon few people do their own services nowadays due to the complexities of some of the bits and the extended oil change periods
suggested by manafacturers...

The parking of staff cars could be hard to resolve - any manager would know their staff are doing this. A superior manager would already have tackled
this and have their staff park at a far point or off site. A Tesco Express attached to a petrol station near me uses the 4 customers' spaces as
staff parking. I pointed this out and was told it was a staff perk!.......

not being funny but im sort of with the halfords guys on this. im against parking accros bays unless absolutely necessary ie transit van into a bay
too small for ka. my boss has said to us we have to park our cars away from the workshop on the new cars compund. where cars regularly get broken into
so we park on the customer car park. now put yourself in my shoes or their shoes and look at it the other way.

I don't think you are being funny and there are two sides. But, maybe parking at the furthest end of the customer parking - and only if it means
there is always room for actual customers. It is infuriating then spaces meant for short stays are occupied all day.

I don't claim to be an expert myself but i am yet to find a member of staff in a halfrauds store who knows a bean. There seem to be plenty of
knowledgeable people in the autofactors so i always try and use them if i can.
tools are quite good in half though...

When i was at my store i was truley awesome unless customers were rude or spoke a different language then i couldnt give a toss. My experience was
having teared various things apart training to be a motorsport engineer and later on building my MNR through my uni studies . shame its gone tits up
now, the management want staff for as little as poss and will only give them a half day shift sat or sun to get out of paying for lunch breaks so you
get a fair amount of kids with no exp or skills working there now

Totally agree.
Where I am we are lucky in that there are a few of us that know what we are talking about. But being paid minimum wage and with the hours cut we are
only there because it's convenient for us. I have no doubt that Halfords have lost some good staff recently and replaced them with 16 year olds
that know exactly nothing since they are the only ones that will work for the wages halfords are offering.
The expression "saving pennies, losing pounds" springs to mind.
Oh an on the subject of bad parking I have mixed feelings, yes it's frustrating... but from their point of view they probably can't afford
the repairs required for other peoples bad parking.
The whole rear wing of my car is scratched and dented courtesy of some guy (read some tw*t) in a transit in halfords car park. He must have known
he'd hit my car but drove off before anyone could get his number anyway.
