I cant find my V5...what can I do?

So I have come to sell my polo.... and I cant find the logbook..

I put it in a big file full of EVERY piece of paper the car has ever had since new.,.. and now cant find the bloody file anywhere!!!!!

I cant really advertise the car until I have the V5 as chances are it might put the potential owner off...

So how do I rectify this? Do I have to pay for another one?

I do have a photocopy of the complete V5 showing ownership etc...

Why is it the more important the piece of paper is, the better it is at hiding its self!

Cost £25 to get a replacement v5c

Odds on you'll find the file about 20mins after sending off for one.

Bought 3 motorcycles in quick succession, all missing V5's, just meant I had to account for the extra cost when buying them and wouldn't put me off buying other motors without one

doesn't take that long to get them through, just a royal pain in the arse if you also don't know the reg, and the tax disk has been obliterated for good measure but still acheivable after wasting several hours bouncing round DVLA's crap system

At least you know the reg and are down as the current keeper...will make things a LOT easier :-)

download a V62, fill it in, cough up £25 post it all off and wait
(took between 3 and 8 weeks on my "collection" to all come back)
2 of the V5's were preceded by nice little notes from DVLA to say they were dealing with my forms, each roughly a couple of weeks prior to receiving the V5. the other just arrived un announced

Regards
Rob

Hang on getting a replacement when you're the owner is fair enough but what's stopping me from sending off one of these forms and nicking someone's Porsche?

If you're changing the details at the same time as applying for a new one then the current registered keeper is sent a letter asking them if they've sold it on.

Hmmm, I'll keep my eyes open for the scammer that sells a vehicle without a V5 and then when you send off for it he says it was garaged and Oh No It's Gone!

there was a scam recently where some crims did that to get the v5s (when owner was on holiday) then get keys recut and coded. Then car is history!
