Vampires

People can't have missed the recent glut of Vampire-ness that seems to be sweeping the world.

Twilight annoyed me so it was with some trepidation I agreed to watch True Blood a HBO serial based on the vampire/human cohabitation of a small town in Louisiana.

I'm not afraid to say I'm hooked. Its A LOT more grown up than Twilight. Certainly not one for the kids. Its very sexy, a bit violent and really well acted and produced. A lot of the cast have put on accents.

It is story heavy so if you pick it up in the middle it might not make much sense.

I bought the 1st and 2nd series on DVD when I was over in the States. I think its nearing the end of the 1st series on channel 4.

Agreed, most of my female friends wont stop going on about Twilight! I have only seen the trailers and I dont think I need to see the films.

One of them did manage to get me to watch true blood though and yes now I have to watch it every week.

Good taste it isnt!

Also Generation Kill was on after so was a decent couple hours of TV. If you havent seen it, its based on a journo from rolling stone's experiences of spending 6 weeks with the us marines 1st recon battalion. The running theme is how they have been thrown into the invasion doing something completely different to what they were trained for and how command manage to screw most things up, so its definately not glorifying the US invasion and a bit of a different take a bit like the film Jar Head. Its made by the same guys who did the wire, so worth a watch if your into that sort of thing.

Liam, I agree True Blood is another great HBO production. I have it linked on Sky + and my wife and I watch it when No1 son goes to bed.

Compelling viewing.

If you like the HBO stuff I can recommend The Wire, Deadwood and Band of Brothers. all very raw and must watch TV.

So why is there this sudden obsession with vampires? BTW, my wife's read the Twilight books and says they are vastly better than the series.

I agree The Wire is very good, Band of Brothers is one of my favourite shows of all time. Also weren't the Rome series HBO productions. They were excellent.

I think Rome was a BBC production but I could be wrong. If you haven't seen Deadwood I really recommend that. Very raw and Ian McShane (yes Lovejoy!!!) is fantastic.

When I lived over there some Americans were recommending Deadwood, I knew Lovejoy was in it and thought it very funny. They didn't really get why I found House funny either

In common with most books written before a film or tv series.
