my advice would be to make sure you use some decent ply.4-6mm to lay onto. and make sure you learn how to scribe around architraives. if its not cut
right or cant slide under it will look awful. other than that,if your just fitting planks you should be ok

I have just done 32sq metres in our kitchen/dining area. It is surprisingly easy - although a little messy as the glue is horrid stuff on your
hands.
Basic rule is AS MINIMAL glue as possible, trowelled out with a serrated float (specific to this job) and left to go off until it starts to turn clear
rather than white. Once its tacky drop the plank in. I cannot emphasise the minimal glue too much, this helps in both going off time and also if you
have too much it squeezes up between the joints - not the end of the world (White spirit takes it off).
As said 6mm ply nailed with serrated nails. All joints filled and sanded.
Looks great once finished

If that's his opinion tell him to do it himself then laugh when he f**ks it up
You can then charge double to remove and re-lay it.

Thanks for the advice. I saw the customer today and pursuaded them to find a trained fitter instead.
