HMRC rant
Yet another rant at a civil service.
Got a lovely letter 2 weeks ago informing me Id over paid my income tax (I had a mix of jobs last financial year as well as sometime unemployed) so
the £505 they gave me was greatly recieved. a few days after the letter came the cheque came too. Great I thought, thats some for the kit car and some
towards a break for the family.
So i thought, as when I got home last night I had a new letter telling me they were wrong and it was infact only £130 they owed me, and i now OWED
THEM £375!!!
Turns out they hadnt seen (or bothered to check) all my information and that the P60 from by current work wasnt accounted for. I recived a copy of the
P60 in my april/may pay slip. I cant see why that P60 wouldnt have been shown on their system when they sent out the first letter!
So i now have to give them the £375 within the next few months, or take a £30 a month tax increase in 2013/14... which isnt so bad but still a fecking
pain!
I wouldnt mind but a £130 bonus in the first place would have been lovely, but now its been spoilt by their avoidable cock up.
If they were a private company they would have gone out of business by now......feckers
thanks for listening/reading...

That is really weird I got a rebate letter for £82 a couple of weeks ago followed shortly by a cheque. Then 2 days ago another telling me of a
mistake and a demand for £385+the £82 pounds they'd already paid.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

It's going to get worse, trust me, throughout the public service so many have been let go mainly those with long service, experience and
managerial skills, so many more are to go by 2014/15 that I can't see any part functioning, I have already heard horror stories of 600 being let
go such that the department can't function so they want to recruit 200, loosing all the experience and replacing with the inexperienced.
If you think the public sector is bad now give it a couple of years and see what's left, privatise yes you can but there is always profit to be
made by reducing delivery, your tax still has to pay whether it's public or private, private can go out of business, taking the money and
running, G4s are to sue for the full contract money when they may pay back a small proportion towards the troops used.
Other sponsors and LOCOG prevented the public sector from reporting on their specialist services that were supplied, so much were we gagged that I
cannot tel you what we did in support of the Olympics even now.
I must stop now before I compramise my bleak and unstable future

I drink to forget
I breath to pi55 my ex wife off (and now my ex partner)

Nail on the head there, they can't make people take pay cuts but they can get rid of them and replace them with people paid less and thats what
is happening. It's not just the civil service though, the private sector is doing the same thing too.

Well beat this then, my Mrs has just got a rebate on her tax for the 2006/7 year, (180 odd quid), we are now waiting for the letter saying its all a
mistake, because for a start she hasn't payed any tax at all since she retired in 1998. What a bunch of w****rs. Ho Hum! Ray

@ Loggy
I've had issues with HMRC for years. All the time I had a co. car they f'd my tax code up every year. I knew for fact my employer was
submitting accurate and on time P60 & P11D paperwork. HMRC were simply incapable of using the info correctly.
I took to sending the paperwork again myself each year by recorded delivery with covering letters. I'd then call to confirm receipt and what
action was being taken (you have to wait 4-8 weeks for this). Then get them to confirn in writing back to you.
Overall it took 5 years to get them straight, c. 100 letters and phone calls (all logged for date, agent and content).
As said, if they were a private co. they would sink within weeks!
