help in Ross on Wye, Hereford.
I was bidding on an ambulance from sjohnros on ebay. I was outbid by a person who has only ever bid on stuff from the seller by what I can make of the
history thing. Predictably, the seller has been in touch to see if I want the ambo for my last highest bid. I've offered him my last offer
before the winning bidder chipped in. He's told me to ring back tomorrow during office hours. However, if I'm buying this ambo, I'll
need to set off at 6am to travel to Ross on Wye and get back to Whitby before the MOT garage closes.
So, does anyone know of this seller? He says he buys ambulances 40 at a time so he must have a big yard? I just want to know if I need to set my alarm
for srupid oclock, or listen to the alarm bells in my head...

has he given you an address? If so google maps will show you how big, and street view what the roadside is like. Otherwise does he have good feedback?
Or was this the first of the 40, and he has 39 others to sell,....?

He says he has just started using Ebay, which checks out with his history. I'll speak at him tomorrow.

If I understand you, sounds suspicious. Did the other bidder push the price up on behalf of the seller then withdraw making convenient way for you?

Here's the Ebay listing. FORD TRANSIT AMBULANCE 2.5 TURBO DIESEL 4X4 CAMPER MINIBUS LOOK | eBay
I'd contacted the seller earlier to ask some questions about the vehicle and he said he had bought 40 ambulances so when I didn't win this
one, I phoned him to see what the other ones were. This was within 10 minutes of the auction ending. He just asked if I wanted to come and get this
one that had just ended. I reaffirmed that I wasn't the highest bidder but he just dismissed it and said he has plenty of ambulances which made
me think that it was shill bidding.
I've got the cash so I'm going to set off in the morning and ring him at 9am. If he makes sense, gives me his address and a firm price,
I'll keep going via train and have a haggle. If not, I'll get back on whatever bus or train I'm on/just got off and come home. And
get drunk.

I am about 35miles North of Ross. Not heard of this guy before but not usually in need for vans or 4x4s.
If you need any assistance whilst in the area give me a shout. I will send you my phone number via a u2u.
Hope everything turns out okay.
Spider.
P.S. Been buying a few dresses lately then? Is this something we should all be worried about?

Cheers Spiderman. I doubt I'd get one leg in a size 12 dress....
I've googled the guys phone number and its given me a company called Direct 4x4 which is based 23 miles south of Hereford with no easy way of
getting there by public transport in time to collect and get home before the end of the day so it means I would be hiring a car from York then leaving
it in Hereford. That is the best part of £100 plus fuel and it still leaves me trying to get that 23 miles!

Where are they? I used to live near Ross and my gran still lives there.
It does sound a lot like shill bidding to me, and I'd personally let it go regardless of the logistics involved in collecting it.

I can't really promise anything as I'm in the throws of moving house AND preparations to get married next weekend but there is a fair
chance that I can get a look at the place over the weekend if you can get me a post code.
Best to U2U me if you could.

Looks like a shill, but lots of them about.
You could argue that you should only pay £2301.

and if he doesn't accept just leave it. Clearly dodgy bidding - if they are prepared to do that then what else isn't as it seems.

I bought an ambulance....
I reserved a car at York station so I could go and have a looksy at the ambo. If I left the car in Hereford, it would cost me £85 for the hire plus
fuel. If I brought it back to York, the hire was £27. So I got a lift 45 miles to York, phoned the ambo guy, agreed a price, so I went for the car.
But Europcar had the reservation, but no car. None of the other places had one-way cars so after wasting over an hour, I got on a train. This got me
to Hereford at 1:30. So I arranged for the ambo guy to collect me. I phoned 30 mins before the train landed, then when I got to the station. He was on
his way. Then my phone battery died. He turned up an hour later, which didn't give me time to buy the ambo and get it to my preferred MOT before
closing so I found an MOT place up the road and booked it in. The vehicle was better than I was expecting and it flew through the MOT.
The guys who were selling the ambo were tits. They couldn't even get their stories straight about the other bidder. He was a guy who lived local
and also a Latvian regular who buys a few cars off them!
Anyhoo, just got home now and I'm trying on the nurses uniform.
Many thanks for the offers of help.
Cheers!

Best way - buying the bits separately will cost loads more. And don't bother with the haynes book!

The interior dimensions are 2000mm x 3500mm, so it depends on the car I suppose. The rear doors only open to 1180mm though.

Hi
Probably you could, it's basically the same as this, though it's got the 'barn' style back doors on it
The striker fits in the back comfortably.
It's an ex rentokil, vauxhall movano 2.2tdi, body by loloader.
There's two built in ramps that go over the wheel arch's (about 15 inch's high) which then bend down to about 10 inch's high
by the rear door, two 10 foot long alloy ramps and the job's done.
It was cheaper to buy and convert do than buying a big covered trailer (plus then something suitable to tow it with) does about 25 - 30mpg and will
happily cruise at 70 loaded.
Plus you have the benefit of once the cars out and under an EZ up (fastned to the van) there's somewhere to sit, quite comfortably, and get a
brew on or camp, for the weekend, out of.

The double wheel arches are only 150mm high and the back of the ambo drops on the air suspension so loading would be fairly easy. Theres a stainless
frame under the fibreglass so widening the doors wouldn't be too tricky. Plenty of cheap ambos kicking about. There's a 2004 Transit on
Ebay for BIN £2750.
