My dad phoned me lastnight just after 11pm asking if I'd got home alright as he'd seen a big flash and heard a rumble coming from the moor road he knew I was travelling over. I thought he'd had too many wine gums.

Did it look like this? Someone else's photo of a meteor from whenever it happened.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Saw it travelling over Blackburn 'ish last night around 22:55 to 22:58. Going East to West.

Was stopped at traffic lights and I got out the car to watch as did the van driver behind me. Quite impressive, fast and must have been high so I guess was further north in actual path.#

Pity I did not get camera out.

I saw it, was sitting in a traffic jam caused by the numskull highways agency coning off two lanes of the M1 from Woodall to the M18 exit..

Sitting in the traffic I thought at first it was a firework, but it lasted much longer, was very bright and was traveling really slow with bits falling away from it. It was very low in the sky as well which I think made it look closer than it was. The radio went berserk straight after with people ringing in.

Made light of a nightmare day on the UK roads yesterday, there really are some clueless twats on our roads...

I wonder if it was a satellite or large piece of space junk that were not being told about ? On Thursday evening I saw what looked to be a satellite pass whilst at work at about 7 in the evening , it was just starting to get towards dusk but some one said what's that up there and we saw a very bright object passing from south east to north west at a speed that could only be a satellite as it was to fast for a plane and not fast enough for a meteor. It was an oval looking shape rather than just a round dot and visible for about a minute. We looked at the on-line sat tracker sites but nothing was shown for that time in our location , so maybe it was a satellite dropping out of orbit but it seemed strange that there was no info .
