a. thats not the site and it only seems to list princess grace and doesnt name the car type.... clue - they are all british made...

b. it doesnt answer the question. Its a bit like teacher asking a question, and you just point at the text book.

so thats not an answer!

Im old enough to remember all of those, apart from Hawthorn, who died 22 days before I was born, so it makes it a bit difficult..

it was actually an SD1 rover. A truck did a u turn in front of them. His son in the back lived, and is in is twenties now. Mike and daughter died.

crap way to go out.

Hailwood got an award for bravery on the track when he was an F1 driver , rescuing a driver from a blazing wreck.

Princess Grace: Rover 3500 - swerved erratically then crashed?

Marc Bolan: Mini Clubman GT (driven by girlfriend Gloria Jones) - hit a tree.

Mike Hailwood: SD1 Rover 3500 - Truck U-turning in front - fish and chip shop.

Mike Hawthorn: Jaguar, lost control near Guilford and hit a tree.

EDIT: This just reminded me, and I've uploaded my Senna wallpaper to my archive if anyone wanted to use it...

I've heard stories locally about Mike Hawthorn. Rumour is he was doing 120+ on the a31 (hogsback) in an e or d type jag when he crashed/hit a tree.

Ned.

web searches actually give various answers, seems he was driving a 3.4 saloon, an xk150 or a mk1 or 2 jag. he was apparantly racing Rob Walker in a ferrari or 300sl on a wet road with experimental tyres and crashed, eventually coming to rest on a bank/against a tree.

Steve, i found the website where all your questions are ocming from, but I won't spoil it for everyone just yet

Ned.

yes, it was another car discussion site. However I think mr walker has answered em pretty well.

Princess Grace: Rover 3500 - swerved erratically then crashed?

It was looking this up yesterday that found me the site - princess grace died 22 years ago yesterday. She was thought to have had a stroke and then crashed. was driving a 10 year old P6. royalty drive 10 year old leylands.........

Marc Bolan: Mini Clubman GT (driven by girlfriend Gloria Jones) - hit a tree.

She was drunk. never faced trial cos she legged it from the UK and never came back. Bolan had a fear of cars.

Mike Hailwood: SD1 Rover 3500 - Truck U-turning in front - fish and chip shop.

Thats about it. Look up about Hailwood on the net - seemed like a talented top bloke.

Mike Hawthorn: Jaguar, lost control near Guilford and hit a tree.

whilst racing on the highway. I saw a pic of the wreck once. it was a tiny tree not much bigger in dia than a lamp post. However, he hit it at the B pillar area, and the heavy ends of the car just kept going, snapping the car in the middle.

Look up isadora duncan. Now thats not a nice way to go.

Princess Grace - Rover P6
Mark Bolan - Purple Mini 1275GT
Mike Hawthorne - Jaguar Mk 1, racing on the Guildford bypass.

Didn't know about Mike Hailwood though.

A bit more trivia....

My wife went to the library yesterday and they were selling some books off. She got me 'The Ultimate Encyclopaedia of Formula 1' for the grand sum of 20p. It's got all the racers from 1950 to 1994 and the championship tables etc. It's amazing how many fatalities there have been during its history. One Roland Ratzenburger(Austrian) was killed in his second race in 1994 the day before Ayrton Senna. These were the first 2 fatalities in 12 years.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
