21st birthday ideas for visually impaired

Hi all,

Thought I'd seek inspiration from the knowledge base on here! my nephew turns 21 in a week or so. From birth he has had a rare eyesight disorder meaning he only has rods on his retina and can only see with his peripheral Vision in very blurry black and white - they estimate about 8% of normal vision. I'm after ideas what to get him - either a present of experience - that would be suitable. He is a bit of a character and has done things like abseiling down a building in the past!.....have seen a few super car experiences that might suit but am after other ideas......over to you!

Rock climbing would be good. When i went we used to do blindfold climbing on routes that we had previously climbed which actually made it really enjoyable. Normally your mate would be shouting bad advice from the ground also just to add to the fun:-). Im sure if you contacted a climbing wall or outdoor centre they would do something for you.

Regards pete

Indoor Skydive ?

Not sure if there are any near you but I went to bodyflight near Bedford for my 40th & it was a great experience, might be worth a bit of research.

Good luck with the search :-)

Give a man a fish & it will feed him for a day, give him a fishing rod & you've saved a fish.

Bop It

Besides any Experiience gift, any of the Bop It Toys would be great, I have one and it never gets outdated... I keep putting new batteries on it every few months as the first one got damaged from battery leak...

Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....

I've just bought 'Bop It' game for my niece who is blind. I did lots of research and it came out as a number 1 gift idea for partially sighted/blind persons, she loves it.
